O/S Daily Monday 16 August 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light but cloudy, dry underfoot and no rain forecast.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
We went visiting the relatives yesterday morning, so had a chicken and salad roll when we got back and then I cooked beef in beer - which was very disappointing, it hadn't got much flavour. Tonight will be chicken.
Back to work today - chaos again no doubt.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
If it's not raining when Steve gets up I think we are moving today, he want to move towards the next pub.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, hope work isn't too busy.
Dry but overcast this morning, the washing from last night is on the pulley, I'll put it out when I get home if it's still dry out. The towels washed yesterday were dry in no time as there was a stiff breeze with bouts of sunshine.
Took the bags to the charity shop yesterday, good to have them out of the way, I've already started a new bag for anything I come across although I'm not going back up in the loft unless I really have to, anything up there can wait until the next cull.
We shared out the large pots of flowers from school so I'm taking back two today, put them in the car yesterday afternoon and of course the sun came out so the car is all steamed up, will have to open the windows whilst I'm in the shower to see if I can clear it. The remaining pot can go back tomorrow, there's no more room in the car.
Hope you all have a happy Monday, take care. XX12 -
Morning everyone.Yesterday I was moderately busy for a lot of the time. The car is now empty again though I managed to avoid doing anything in the spare room. As the weather was OK I did a little light pottering in the garden dead-heading some flowers, pulling up the odd weed and refilling the bird feeders. My reward for that was a visit from a woodpecker who enjoyed a feast of peanuts. After getting the news about my aunt I phoned my cousin in Berlin for a very weepy chat. His brother, who lives in the next village to their mother, had already made all the necessary arrangements for next Saturday. For a fleeting half hour I thought about going across for the funeral, even got as far as looking at flights to either Frankfurt or Stüttgart (my aunt lived in the south of Germany) before realising that I wouldn't manage a funeral so close to my own DM's death. I'd be a wreck and that wouldn't be fair to my cousins so I'm not going. My Berlin cousin is coming here next month for my DM's belated gathering. To keep my mind occupied I did some investigation into going to Oz next year if allowed. Flights, hotels, trains etc all took me far away for a little while. 😀
Today is dull and cloudy again, it's more like early winter. I'd like to get some books into my car to take to the CS when I'm in Glasgow tomorrow, it'd be good to make a start on that but who knows.I seem to have a glut of eggs so plan to make some savoury muffins for the freezer.Ruby - how was family lunch?
My thoughts are with our poorlies and missing.
Happy Monday to all.13 -
Hi everyone,
I was in bed very early last night and fast asleep before Steve came up, I was shattered. We will have Esben today so I needed it, he is such a livewire. Laura said that her friends don't know how she keeps up with him but I reminded her that I told her he would be energetic, he couldn't be anything else with the parents he's got. When I take him for a walk he holds my hand, says, ready, steady, go and expects me to run along with him. That's ok while he's only 21 months, I think by the time he's four or five he'll be leaving me in his dust.
We might take him to a small animal park today, it depends on the weather which is looking decidedly threatening at the moment.
I'd better include some OS content as it's been decidedly lacking from my posts - I spent a bit of time last night hanging Esben's reusable nappies to dry, that must be oldstyle. They are so different to the old terry ones I used with Laura and Chris (I won a years supply of disposables when Chris was a year old, the biggest and best prize I have ever won and I abandoned the terries with joy).
Have a good day all and I hope the poorlies have as good a day as possible.

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another cloudy but dry day forecast for us with a light breeze. It's been a poor August on the whole so far with a serious lack of sunshine hereabouts.
The usual catch up of jobs is planned for today, I never seem to get on top of everything these days. Oh well what doesn't get done will still be there another day!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care one and all and be safe x

Morning all I have been MIA for a few days as i haven't really had much to say . We had family for the weekend and an aunt and some cousins popped over so we had a nice time in the garden . Yesterday I went with DD2 to look at wedding dresses for her best friend but she didn't find the one . Dinner tonight pork chops with veg .
Hugs to all our poorlies and those looking after them
Have a good day whatever you are up to xSlava Ukraini12 -
Good morning everyone
It is dry but dull here this morning. I am thinking about going out today after a successful trip to Tesco last week. I only managed three or four aisles but it felt like a fantastic achievement. Today, I fancy going to our nearest shopping centre as there is lots of seating so I can shop and rest.
I went to see my sister last week and she was not feeling so good. She is really struggling to eat anything and I was very worried about her. Since then she has posted on Facebook that she is feeling a lot better and being much more positive. She had tried to manage without painkillers but realised she still needed them as she was still healing. My sister always approaches everything at 100mph but thankfully she has the sense to slow down and recover.
I am looking through my recipe books today to find some meals suitable to cook in the slow cooker. I am planning to make much more use of mine as it is so handy to just chuck stuff in and let it get on with it for the day. I have a fancy schmancy recipe card box that I am using to record any good recipes I have tried.
Another sister is coming to visit me on Saturday with my 2 nieces so I have been making them a hedgehog each and will make an owl each by then as well. They have to have exactly the same or the youngest one (who is incredibly spoilt) kicks off. The older niece is very patient and an absolute delight now but I remember her being much the same as her younger sister at the same age so I am hopeful that her sisters behaviour will improve especially when she starts school next month.
Right, I am off to get dressed and ready for the day. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx13 -
Very quiet weekend but today my son is coming to help empty a few pots and clear the greenhouse. Remaining tomatoes will be brought inside to finish ripening. All these jobs are sadly too much for me now. He is bringing over a home cooked dinner for me which will be a lovely treat later on today.
GERs I think you are wise not to go to the funeral, it is still early days
pleased to hear you are getting out a bit more DUMPLING keep going, it will get easier.13 -
Good morning all; getting brighter here now, it was a bit grim earlier.
Lovely to hear that you are getting out a bit Dumpling and hope today's trip goes well.
Yesterday I was walking in Snoozerland - think it was called Stratford Road - and then we went for a drink at the pub by the railway station. We did about 4 miles and found geocaches along the way so that was good.
Today I have lots of bits and bobs to catch up on; some cakes to make for when DGS visits tomorrow, prescription to collect etc, etc. First load of washing is in and we'll see if I get it all done in time. Mustn't forget the Test Match is on tv as well so that might need a bit if attention.
Happy Monday everyone12 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
I was very frugal yesterday, when I cooked the large sirlion joint I sliced the remainder and froze it so yesterday I took out a pack of beef for supper, we had home grown veggies with it. I had also made a crumble using rhubarb from the freezer and apples from my neighbour, so a cheapy supper for us.
Gers, I think you are wise not to put yourself under pressure to go to the funeral in Germany, you own loss is still very raw. Good idea to plan a visit to Australia, Hopefully we will be ok to travel to Australia by then, although I do think that Covid is going to be with us in some form or another for a long time.
Its a bit grey this morning, the sun keeps coming and going. I have bed linen in the washer, cleaner is here this morning so need to get out the clean bed linen, she helps my put the duvet cover on.
DB spent time in the garden yesterday. I unpicked all the blocks for the quilt for Little Miss, cut down the squares to a reasonable equal size. Despite being very careful when I cut the pieces out several were very much out and sone smaller than they should be. I managed to get one row done yesterday. Will try and do another one today.
Out in the garden yesterday I have got bitten again, this time on the top of my arm, it itches like crazy, trying hard to to succumb and scratch it.
Egg, chips and beans tonight, will finish off the crumble.9
