I don't imagine the weather is great...
Compared to where? If you're moving from the Cote d'Azur, yes I expect you might find it disappointing. But from anywhere else in the UK it's going to be much of a muchness.

Difficult to generalise about the weather since the terrain goes from the sea through to a mountain range.  Relatives who live in the foothills often get very little rain.  As you suggest though, temperatures are more moderate than the south of england

I couldn’t answer that, [DELETED USER], hopefully someone who’s lived there will respond. In political terms, D&g has been Conservative for a long time, in contrast with most of Scotland.

Thanks. One of the things that attracts me to Scotland is it's overall more progressive and accepting nature compared to England. Maybe the south isn't the right place.
    Nice sweeping statement there...
Everywhere has places more and less accepting of others, towns and cities have neighbourhoods that border each other but won't mix.  I'm not sure choosing a random place in a different country and hoping it is better is necessarily the best approach.

Thinking about moving to the Dumfries area, maybe Annan. Anyone care to comment on the area? Looks okay, Carlisle isn't far away, and it has the benefit of being in Scotland. I don't imagine the weather is great...
I personally wouldn't move to the Scottish Borders. I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing that my council tax is financing a tory council.

If you want more progressive and accepting nature, then I'm sorry to break it to you, but Dumfries and Galloway, along with the all the Scottish borders, are basically England.
