Ideas for garage ceiling

Options
Hi All

I want to give my dark and dingy garage some life. I am pretty sure it's suffers from some damp as you can feel it in the air but nothing really visible. It's currently got concrete walls and the ceiling is half covered by white polystyrene ceiling tiles.

Does any one have any DIY ideas to revive the garage without breaking the bank?

One idea I had was fresh lick of paint for walls and do cladding on the ceilings.

I welcome any suggestions and practical ideas :)

Thanks.

Connection to the house or free standing may make a difference but:

Buy some cheap carpet and put this on the floor.

See if you can reduce the gaps around the doors to reduce air flow.

Put a sheet of heavy guage plastic down first and then top it off with a layer of wood fibre boards (the type used for laminate underlay). Many garages built on a concrete slab lack a DPM, so moisture will readily wick through. The wood fibre boards will provide a little bit of insulation and also help to smooth out any small lumps & bumps.

What do you intend to use the garage for?

We've had (various) ex-lounge carpets on our double garage floor over the past 30+ years.  Our Morgan 44 likes living there - and I've even hosted coffee/wine afternoons there.  The ceiling is open above the rafters and we have absolutely no damp.  Why do you have polystyrene tiles in there?  That's bonkers.

Hi. The tiles were there when we recently moved in. Want to use the garage for mostly storage and for wood work DIY projects though I want to keep it tidy enough to be able to do some weight or exercise bike now and then. Just for context it's not a house but a garage at the bottom of a block of flats where I live.

So I want to do something to it that will be fairly low cost and low maintenance also.

For a exercise area with a concrete floor Rubber Safety Matting similar to what you can see on CEF website under ppe and safety is good choice. May seem expensive but very long lasting and can take with you when you move.

Does that not require some kind of change of use permission given that its separate from the OPs flat?

I would imagine tens of thousands of people store and use exercise bikes and weights in their garage,if it only for their personal use I cannot see any problem but others may.
