    There are about 7 species of wasps in the UK. I've found the ground-nesting ones here and at my last home 100 miles away to be very placid.
    Last week I went over a ground nest with the mower, but although agitated, the wasps never strayed more than a metre from the hole and soon a calmed-down. I was able to carry on mowing nearby without any problems.

    Thank you, that is interesting. I agree that mine don't seem to go too far from the nest, which is surprising. At the same time I did mow close to the nest and I got stung
