Is this evidence of respray?

  • A friend of mine from years back is/was a spray painter with a top reputation. The amount of brand new cars he painted always amazed me until I asked him why this was and he told me lots of new vehicles get damaged on transporters by heavy handed truck drivers who likes throwing ratchet straps over bonnets and roofs etc, he said loads of cars 'have had paint' before they even hit the showroom and that majority of customers don't even know their new pride and joy has already had a 'respray' so to speak

He painted a wing for me on my nearly new Merc when one of the local children ran into it on his bike, the child's dad was mortified but Pete charged me £90 to paint it and nobody ever knew it had been damaged, silver metallic too, even when I traded it the dealer saw nothing.
  • Be the cheap !!!!!! cleaning products that dealers smother the vehicles in before they sell them.

Maybe it was used by a decorator and got paint from their hands on the handles?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I have never had any spraying done that hasn't become very obvious. When they have just done it you think they have done a marvelous job. 3:or 4 years later it is starting to show. They won't entertain any sort of complaint at this stage. 10 years later it looks awful. I guess you just have to keep having it resprayed if you want to keep up the appearance.

I used to work with a guy who did the transportation repairs for British Leyland.

He always reckoned he could tell the ones he'd repaired as they were the only non rusty panels 5 or 10 years down the line.

If it's polish or wax it should come off with a pencil eraser/rubber.

Yuck, a polish that contains chalk (which makes it easy to see when drying) has been used.
    Autoglym probably.
They make some great products but I hate their super resin polish for this reason.
I prefer polishes/waxes that don't punish you when you accidentally hit black trim.
