Fidelity/iWeb ISA UK Government Bonds

Hi folks.

I was wondering if any of you who has Fidelity or/and iWeb S&S ISA account can confirm if you can buy individual GILTS?

I do have an iWeb account but cannot find anywhere on the site to buy GILTS. I know Hargreaves has the option to buy individual bonds, but on Fidelity website I cannot find that option( I don't have an account with them so not sure if they maybe not showing all the options if not logged in).

Thank you for your help.

HL is the only popular platform I'm aware of that allows you to trade Gilts directly. iWeb does not, I don't have an account with Fidelity.

I've never bought them with iWeb but if you look at the webpage on its site where it lists 'investment options' it includes gilts so it should be possible.

I tried a quick test and e.g., if you enter and verify 'TR30,' the LSE ticker for a 4.75% gilt which matures on 07/12/30, in the usual box for a UK listed security it appears.

Hmm, interesting as I have tried and failed in the past. I'll have to give it a try during market hours.

I tried with TR28 which appears in HL list, but iWeb didn't find it. I just tried again and now it found it. First I used smaller case letters, now with upper cases and found it.

    Thanks.

I just checked. It seems you must use upper cases for TR(ticker for GILTs)

Thanks, if you are planning to put through an order next week I'd be interested in how you get on. It was a while ago so I don't remember where my attempts fell down.

I don't plan to buy any bonds for a long period of time. I was just trying to plan where to keep my SIPP to be able to buy bonds in the far future.

But I did a quick check on iWeb and they do appear on dealing screen on UK shares as wmb194 said.

Yes, I have also verified this, but I do not yet know whether it is possible to get a quote for them, or execute a deal.
In terms of the far future, things can change. For example, Interactive Investor used to support buying gilts directly, but now does not. It also has a few available to select from the dealing screen, but unlike iWeb has many missing.

I presume if you can verify it, you can buy it. I will give it a go tomorrow once market opens.

No need to buy, but it can be checked to get a quote.

Although this thread is not relevant to iWeb, it does discuss why several brokers do not allow trading of bonds online, and others have withdrawn online trading: https://www.fixedincomeinvestor.co.uk/x/forum.html#/discussion/549/on-line-bond-trading
It is fortunate if iWeb allow phone trading at the online price, as it seems others want to charge a higher telephone fee.
