If you need to be a subscriber I really wouldn't recommend the free trial. Its a complete nightmare. I did free trial once to enter a comp and cancelled straight after entering. But they didn't process my cancellation despite my definitely submitting the request. (Lesson learned - always screenshot the confirmation screen!) Then I was stuck paying something ridiculous like about £30pm for a minimum contract period of several months.

THEN when out of the minimal period it's still impossible to cancel. I requested cancellation in writing several times. They took a long time to respond both times, eventually telling me I could only cancel via phone (frustrating given they were happy to begin my subscription without a phone call). But then (surprise surprise) it's impossible to actually get through via phone! 

I ended up writing to say I couldn't get through and was therefore cancelling my recurring PayPal payment as I had requested my cancellation in writing several times and that should be sufficient. They tried to call me a few times at that point and sent a couple of auto emails informing me I had missed my latest subscription payment but it's finally gone quiet now!

Avoid subscription like the plague (unless you genuinely want it long term) - they are cowboys!

I can't see anything in the T&Cs about needing to be a subscriber and it doesn't ask for a subscription number.

Participation in the Promotion

1. 1. 1. The Promotion is only open to residents of the United Kingdom only. The following individuals are not eligible to enter the Promotion:

      Winners and Prizes
      7. There will be one winner. One prize per winner.
      8. The winner will be selected at random from all valid entries for this Promotion received during the Promotion Period by a computer process that produces verifiably random results. There will be no prizes for any other entrants.
      9. The prize is an Intrepid Travel trip for two travellers (ages 18+) on Intrepid Travel’s Antarctic Whale Journey trip (trip code: GQMWJ) on 7 Feb 2022 Prize includes return economy international flights from any UK airport to Ushuaia, Argentina up to a value of £1,200 pp. Exact flight date/time will be selected at prize provider’s discretion. Prize includes transfers from Ushuaia airport to hotel only. Prize excludes UK transfers. Winner and guest responsible for getting to and from UK airport at their own expense. Winner and guest will be sharing a twin berth Cat 5 cabin (twin window). Subject to availability, prize must be booked in advance. Prize must be taken on 7 February 2022. Winner and his/her guest(s) must travel on same itinerary. All parts of prize must be used in conjunction with same booking. Winner and his/her guest(s) are solely responsible for ensuring they have valid travel documentation (including passport/visa/visa waiver as may be required), obtaining adequate travel insurance and appropriate vaccinations / inoculations for foreign travel at their own expense.
      10. Not included in the Prize is travel insurance, any additional meals, activities, transfers or accommodation not included in the itinerary.
      11. All travel is subject to the Intrepid Booking Conditions which can be found at: https://www.intrepidtravel.com/booking-intrepid/booking-conditions The winner will be required to agree to the current Booking Conditions at the time of booking.
      12. From 1 September 2021, all Intrepid Travel travellers are required to produce:

          – Proof of COVID-19 vaccination these new safety measures apply on all Intrepid Travel trips, except for tours in Australia, New Zealand and the Cook Islands.
          If you are unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons, you may apply for an exemption. Exemptions will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. To apply, you must provide a medical certificate from a medical professional.
          Children under 18 are exempt. Children aged between 6 and 17 years old must provide proof of either vaccination, recovery or a negative COVID-19 test.
          For proof of vaccination, a copy of your vaccination record (either paper or digital) is required.
          For example,

          – an  NHS card with batch number (UK travellers)

          – CDC vaccination record (USA travellers)

          – Eu Digital COVID Pass (EU travellers)

          You will be required to present this proof at the group meeting on day 1 of your trip.

      13. Prizes are as stated and are non-exchangeable and non-transferable. There is no cash or other alternative to the prize in whole or in part.
      14. The winner is responsible for paying all associated costs that are not specifically stated in any Promotional materials or these Terms and Conditions, including (where applicable) transport, accommodation, meal costs, spending money, insurance and all other incidentals. Winners are also personally responsible for any personal or incidental expenses and any VAT, national and/or local tax liabilities incurred in claiming or using the prize. By participating in the Promotion, participants agree that the prize is awarded on an “as is” basis, and that neither the Promoter nor any of its subsidiary or affiliated companies, make any guarantees, representations or warranties of any nature with respect to the prize.
      15. In the event that, for reasons beyond the Promoter’s reasonable control, the Promoter is unable to award the prize as described in these Terms and Conditions, the Promoter reserves the right to award a prize of a similar nature and an equivalent value, or at its sole discretion, the cash value of the prize.       16. The Promoter, its affiliates, and Intrepid Travel may amend or withdraw any element of a competition, prize draw, vote or poll for reasons beyond their reasonable control, including but not limited to the unavailability of the vote, poll, competition or prize draw entry platform before the closing date, or for strike, lock-out, labour dispute, illness, act of God, natural disaster, adverse weather conditions, war, riot, civil commotion, accident, public health concern in relation to potential infection, epidemic or pandemic, malicious damage, fire, flood and/or storm, compliance with law or governmental order, rule, regulation or direction, breakdown of plant, machinery or transportation. The Promoter, its affiliates, and Intrepid Travel are not responsible for any loss or damage caused to you as a result of any of these occurrences. Therefore the Promoter and Intrepid Travel shall not be responsible if the winner is unable to [redeem their tickets] for any time period as a result of government guidelines or restrictions resulting from COVID-19. No [alternative booking dates or] compensation will be made available in these circumstances.
      Winner Announcement and claiming of prize
      17. Winner will be notified by email or using the other contact details provided to the Promoter by 1 September 2021. All reasonable endeavours will be made to contact the winner during the specified time. If a winner cannot be contacted or is not available, the Promoter reserves the right to re-draw another winner from the valid/correct entries that were received during the Promotion Period. Winners may be required to submit valid identification before receiving their prize.
      18. Winners will be required to confirm acceptance of the applicable prize and must book the Intrepid prize directly with Intrepid Travel by calling 0808 274 5111 and quoting the winning promo code which will be sent to the winner. If the winner has not claimed their prize by the date specified the Promoter reserves the right to award the prize to another participant.
      19. The prize will be delivered within a reasonable time and by no later than 28 days after the prize has been accepted.
      20. The Promoter proposes to make available a list of winners, subject to any objections from the relevant individuals. For a copy of the list, please send a stamped self-addressed envelope by no later than 28 days after the end of the Promotion Period to News UK, Promotions Department, 1 London Bridge Street, London, SE1 9GF stating for which Promotion you would like winners’ details. If a winner objects to this information being made available, they should inform the Promoter at the earliest opportunity using email care@thetimes.co.uk. Winners acknowledge that the Promoter may still be required to share their details with the Advertising Standards Authority or other regulators.
