If you do ask on facebook, etc, be wary of someone saying 'Got them - give me your address and I'll pop them round'.

Yes, but also be realistic about the actual chance of someone finding them that wants to rob your house.

I've just been asking in the woods where I walk my dog. I notice people often put lost items on top of a post in the car park.  In fact there was something on there today.  I could ask the council bin collectors who clear up the rubbish.  Unfortunately, it's only one of about five places I might have dropped them.

My house is a burglars nightmare, only one entrance facing a street lamp, in a cul-de sac and nosy neighbours!  Oh, and there's hardly anything worth nicking except a large male dog who would wake the dead.  They can guess most of this from the basic 16yo car key.

OP, chances are your keys will be in the woods somewhere, and they'll slowly get rusty over the next 1,000 years. If there's nothing on the keys to identify your address, then there's virtually no chance of your house being affected. I'd say there's a slim chance of your car being affected either. I wouldn't go changing my locks. DO you have a loyalty card type thing attached to your keys - Tesco, Sainsburys, Co-op etc. If you do, try there. Someone may have seen that and handed them in there.
All you can do is try and retrace your steps over the next few days and if they are where you dropped them, you may come across them. If someone has found them, they'll more than likely do their best to try and find the owner through FB or In my neighbourhood type apps.
MY OH lost her new phone a few months ago while out walking. We rang it a few times but to no avail. Then it rung me back -  some guy had found it and was able to respond to a missed call without the phone being unlocked. I went out to meet him, and new phone back home safely.
