Multiple chrome.exe programmes showing in Task Manager..?

Purely by accident, I've noticed that I seem to have 8 'chrome.exe' mentions appearing in Task Manager when I start chrome. Can this be right? I only have one page open - if I open a new tab, it goes up to 10.

Might this be slowing the system or otherwise some kind of fault?

This is normal.  It's been the case since at least 2017.

Same with MS Edge - 14 instances currently.

Ok thanks very much. It must be some considerable time since I opened Task Manager... I DO remember chrome once showing 4 progs running and thought that was odd then!! I wonder why the need for it...

A relief to know that nothing odd's going on.

All modern browsers do this, the era of tabbed browsing have multiple browser processes means that (in theory) if one tab gets compromised, it limits the control an intruder/attacker has.  Also if a tab hangs because of a rogue extension/app/script on one page in one tab it shouldn't affect the others (again in theory).
