I'm travelling to an amber country in a few weeks time and wanted to get everything sorted beforehand rather than trying to order kits from abroad. I was looking at ordering some day 2 kits from Randox but wanted to check if you can order the kits a couple of weeks in advance? Cheers.

I don't see why not.  You order the kit and get a code to fill in on your UK Passenger Locator Form.  I had the kit delivered to family in case it needed signing for.  It arrived the day before I travelled home.  You have to activate the kit online before using it, so I don't think it makes any difference when you order it.

I saw the pictures of drop off bins overflowing but I dropped mine ff at Haydock Racecourse and there were 3 drop off bins with loads of room in them.

Yes you can order them ahead of time but if your travel plans change & you can’t go for some reason - ( e.g someone in the family tests positive or the country goes on red list  ) most of the companies won’t cancel or refund you for unused tests so you may prefer to wait until nearer the time .
  • Make sure that you are near a Randox or DX Drop Off Box? When I ordered mine didn’t check as thought it would just go in post! NO it’s special courier which doubles the cost & more, or use the drop off boxes, nearest ones to me are absolutely miles away. So check their maps before you order. There are photos all over the net showing the drop off boxes totally full with sealed packages piled high on top of them. It appears all the suppliers are struggling with demand!

Yes you can. I did that for daughter's recent holiday, and she had them prior to going away. I also agree with checking if there's the drop off boxes nearby. I didn't realise this when I ordered them, was purely drawn by the discount code offerred. Fortunately there were 2 not far away, but could have been an issue.
