Wink Haus Cobra 2 mechanism doesn't lift the hooks fully

I've just moved into a new property and I've found that the front front door does not open open properly. Obviously a fire hazard I did some investigation.

There are two issues that I can find. Firstly is that the door is not seated evenly in the frame. Investigating the frame I can't see an easy way of adjusting the hinges as one would in a UPVC door.

The second issue relates to the Cobra 2 hooks. These retract partly (as pictured) when you press on the door handle with a normal pressure. And retract fully when you press the door handle quickly. Obviously if you're in a rush and the door doesn't open it's bad news all round.

Does anyone know what might be causing the door Cobra hooks to not retract and separately how I might be able to adjust these particular door hinges?

Many thanks in advance.

  • For the hinges, we'd need close-up photos of them from all sides, top and bottom, and from the inside with the door fully open. They are bound to have adjustments. They look like the type that have small grub screws in their sides - you might see this with the door open. If so, the screw - I think - acts on the hinge pin, so pushes it sideways. Height adjustment is usually by a screw at the end of the hinge pin, so this would be on the underside - look up at the hinge from below.

As for the hooks, I guess it could be any part of the mechanism. Hard to diagnose from this side of the screen, but if you have a 'feel' for this sort of thing, you should be able to work out where in the system there is either 'play' - a slack or looseness - or where there's binding - something rubbing or being restricted in movement.
It might help to unbolt the inside handle so you can see how the handle spindle acts on the door mech - eg is the 'play' in the actual door handle itself where it joins with the spindle, or between the spindle and the door mech, or within the door mech somewhere else inside.

could be the spindle is slipping slightly before it engages . often because it has been forced up or down a lot . take off the handle and play with just one handle and see if the mech is moving a lot with the spindle slightly in. a new mech would help . you can buy online or a local pvc repair shop . also the top hinge needs moving over a bit . normally a pozi screw or 4mm allen key when the door is open . just looks tight on the handle side
