Scottish Power Cashback
Hi,
We're currently at the end of our Scottish Power tariff, and want to stick with them since they're one of the cheapest actually green suppliers, however we've seen a quite substantial £210.50 cashback available for new customers, but only if switching from another supplier to Scottish Power. I just wanted to ask if it would work/be worth the effort to switch away for a short period and then switch back under my partner's name as a "new" customer?

You need to fully look into what SP define as a new customer in regards this cashback.
e.g. I know some suppliers say you must not have been supplied by them within the last 12 months, and I think I saw one that said the supplier must not have supplied you at the supply address ever.
If your partner is named as a joint tenant or joint owner or you and your partner are somehow financially liked in any other way (such as via a joint bank account, or joint loan agreement) then that may also be a potential issue.
The other potential issue is whether the existing offer will still be available later.
It will take at least 17 days, often 21 days, to switch supplier.
Attempting to switch supplier again so soon after you have just switched, can also sometimes lead to problems according to some posts I have read.
Also, are you convinced the tariff you have seen offered by SP with the associated cashback is the best tariff your you?
When I've looked at these kind of deals, I usually find that
(a) it's a dual fuel tariff being offered.
(b) it's often a long fixed tariff being offered (where early exit fees apply)
(c) it's not a particularly competitive tariff.
Use a comparison site to find the best deal for you.
Often, it is currently found that separate gas & electricity suppliers give you the best result.
Try not to be enticed by offers of cashback. As this site says, you are better looking first at the best deal for you, and then if there is an offer of possible cashback available, to take that as well. (although that caution over possible cashback may not be so important when the cashback is offered direct by a supplier such as SP, who are unlikley to go bust anytime soon)

Hi,
Thanks for the response. As far as the new tariff goes, it seems the best for us at the moment. It's 2 year fixed, dual fuel with no exit fees, and is about the same price as I've found on comparison sites. I'll take a look at separate supplies too, thanks! The "quick switch" was the only thing I was worried about yeah, we've had many issues with energy suppliers messing up our bills and so would rather not have to deal with that again.0
