Why so many searches?

I'm using the MSE credit club reporting through Experian and confused about the number of insurers checking my credit file on a regular basis. Why do they do this?
I used comparison sites mid-Feb for home insurance and mid-May for car insurance. My home insurance with Policy Expert and my car is with Hastings Direct. I've not searched for insurance since then. There have been 94 searches within the last three months, including from companies I've never heard of before.
I'm just concerned something is going on but I don't know what!
This is the activity from June until now.

So they don't waste time with quotes if you're dead or otherwise uninsurable.0

When you use price comparison sites or eligibility checkers you typically give permission for these companies (and any companies they sell your data to) to conduct searches "from time to time" - it's all in the fine print of the T&Cs you agree to when you use their sites. It's basically so they can see if they can sell you stuff.
Nothing to worry about however unless they start doing hard searches. The soft searches they make are only visible to you - lenders cannot see them.1
