BT Digital Voice Switchover

Hi Folks,

I've received notification from BT that I will be transferred over to Digital voice for my landline, this will render my home alarm calling feature dead unless I pay £300.

Looking around I can save about that amount by switching to Sky Ultrafast Plus + so can I use the fact that BT are changing my service as  reason to exit the contract penalty free?

Thanks for your help MSE'rs

Will your home alarm system work on SKY? isn't Sky a digital system? My daughters was.
  • Have you spoke with BT at all? They'd honestly be the best people to answer this instead of an internet forum

Even the BT members community forum would be better .
Found via your account/ help .
IF its Openreach that are closing the ADSL to you then Sky will be the same as BT .
Many alarm company's have been well aware of this for a number of years .and have taken steps to migrate .

Mention is made of ATA analogue telephone adaptor .

Just received our letter from BT saying that they are moving to digital voice service.  At the moment we have 2 separate lines coming into our property, one for broadband the other for the landline for the calls and I cannot see where BT are going to stop charging for the current landline even though it will no longer be there and used.  We have been told how much extra our charges will be after the end of our BT contract runs out in January 2022.

I know people who do not have BT broadband but just have a BT landline for calls?  Guess this is a question for BT.

    Any thoughts on this?

There will be still be a landline service, so you will continue to pay for it. Do you currently have two separate physical landline connections? If so, why?

https://www.openreach.co.uk/cpportal/products/product-withdrawal/wlr-withdrawal is worth a read (although aimed at telecoms industry)

OP:  are you in these areas by any chance?

If so there ought to be some extra help /assistance available to explain and ease the migration issues? Re-read any paperwork sent to you? and use the contact information on that?
  • When the switch over comes in I have been told that you will only be able to have a landline if you have a smart hub 2 . Smart hub 2 was not compatible with my bt white dish mesh wifi so bt gave me a smart hub which does a great job. I now have to make the choice either move over to BT hub 2 with their black discs for an extra £7 a month and be totally tied to BT in the future with little negotiating rights or do without a land line. This will also affect anyone who does not use the BT router. Thoughts ??

I got my letter today. Rang BT and was told my only option was to use the Smart Hub or cancel my phone service when they migrate me leaving me with no phone line. I don't use the Smart Hub as I find my own router far better. So it looks like its go with the Smart Hub to keep a line active or go without and say goodbye to the landline!

Or you could use the Smart Hub only as a modem and for the phone line and then use your router for everything else and connect all your devices to that.

Interesting topic ... I have FTTC which uses a separate VDSL modem feeding my HH4; would Digital Voice changeover impact me?
