Odd driving licence query

I have read the MSE guide on driving licences, but this is an odd query.

I'm 67 (68 soon) and have an old pink paper licence valid until I'm 70. The address on the licence is correct except for the fact that our post codes were changed years ago.

Should I still treat this as a change of address (although actually it is the same house I've lived in for 35 years) and also apply for it to be changed to a card licence, or should I just leave it please?

TIA

The requirement is for it to be have an address you are contactable at so it depends if a letter is posted with the old postcode does it still get to you or does it get delivered elsewhere because the postcode now relates to a different street and the postie blindly puts it in your door number on that street.

Thanks, all post comes to the same address. The old postcode area doesn't exist on any current postcode information or mapping so does not refer to any other location. It can only come here.

You'll have to change to a photocard at 70 anyway. Your call whether you want to do it now, if only the postcode has changed.

It's the same address. The cops will be able to find you.

Not sure why MSE always gets very excited about keeping your licence address up to date being a "money-saving" tip, when I've never heard of anybody actually being fined for it.

It's not a change of address, but the address is not correct, you need to update your licence.

No you don't, our postcode was also changed and the postie has never had a problem.  These things can be sorted in the natural cycle if/when they need renewed.  My licence remained registered at my mother's for 20-25 years after I left home, could they contact me, yes of course they could.

Similar situation here. My post code changed in Dec 1998.  If I google the old post code it shows the correct location.  If they would update my licence for free I might do it otherwise I will wait for another few years until I have to do it.

    It is free. See https://www.gov.uk/change-address-driving-licence

I was in the same situation and didn't notify DVLA of the change of postcode. They still found me 3 months before my 70th birthday and I got my new  photocard licence.
  • I wouldn't waste my time or money changing it because a letter in a postcode is no longer valid. Post sent to that address is still going to arrive in your letter box regardless.

I've had all sorts of mail with wrong address on and still finds it's way to my letter box.
