Energy Hike

Hi
I've just received an email from Peoples Energy stating that from October 2021 there will be a 25% increase in my payments.  When I took out this deal in March 2021 I chose the People's Energy Fixed Super Tariff Mar 21.  Does this not mean that I have it fixed till my renewal next year?  I thought fixed meant fixed for the term?

Deal  is the same its your usage that is higher than the direct debit .
Fixed means  the actual prices .
Direct Debit is an estimate based upon the annual consumption you input .
Post reads as you are not paying enough for your actual usage .
You give frequent meter readings to keep payments in line with what you use .

Have they actually put you onto a new tariff (unlikely) or have they just increased your DD using your existing plan (likely)?  The fix should mean that you are on the same tariff (unit rates) until March 2022 but not necessarily the same DD payments..  I daresay you can argue against a DD increasing so long as you have kept a reasonably healthy balance and know what your EAC (Estimated annual consumption) is.

You might want to look at the tariff details esp payment method

@quinncarol003  Please have a good look at the statements you have received from PE.  Unless you have been giving PE monthly reads PE will have been guessing - those guesses may be high, they may be low.

On your last statement - are you in credit or debt ?

They are getting desperate.  I had 2 calls last week trying to get me to increase my DD.  There was no justification for it as I have overpaid even more this year than I did last year.  I told them that if it looked anywhere near like I was going to land up owing them money they wouldn't need to ask as I would contact them.  Surely the aim should be to land up at zero at the end of the term, not them owing me a couple of hundred.  I told them I was getting very worried about having them as a supplier.

It is very difficult to guess what goes through the minds of energy bosses when it comes to managing cash flow. You are correct the aim should be a near zero balance at the end of the contract period.
