I have read all about the prediliction of some members of this profession to overcharge.
I have a large Magnolia Grandiflora about 30 feet tall which needs height reductin by abou12-15 feet. A tree surgeon says it is a 3-4 hour job and has quoted £420 including vat. This is considerably more per hour thatn I pay my plumber, is this reasonable? I live in Reading.
Also, he seemed a bit miffed when I asked for a copy of his insurance policy.

You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

We've been quoted £216 to reduce a similar sized cherry tree by 50% in West Sussex. It's in the front garden so access is no problem. Your quote seems high by comparison unless there's restricted access or some other challenge.
I would get another quote if I were you."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0
