Southport

Options
Hi everyone looking at going to Southport in October for a few days. Never been before so just wondering what area we should be looking in for accommodation would like to be central to shops restaurants etc, any reccomendations for accommodation would be great preferably with car parking or very nearby.  Also any must dos while we're there or must do places to eat. TIA everyone ☺

Hi I’m originally from Southport and visit family multiple times a year and always stay at the premier inn on the seafront it’s called SouthportCentral. It has more than enough parking and minutes walk to town. It is right on the sea front next to the pier. It is on a complex of restaurants, bowling alley etc but we have never been disturbed by noise.

Over the years we have tried all the big hotels and found them too noisy as they all host weddings/parties and decided to try the premier inn after seeing such good reviews.

the sea front has extensive walks. Formby beach has a red squirrel reserve; Crosby beach has the Anthony Gormley iconic iron man art work ‘Another Place’. There is the fun fair, the marine lake, swimming pool with waterslides and the wildfowl trust at Martin Mere. Liverpool is 18 miles away and worth a visit.

Can’t really comment on eating out although both Birkdale and Formby villages have very good restaurants.

hope you have a good trip!

Forgot to mention the sunsets are amazing!
  • Thankyou  I did look at the  big hotels they looked great and so cheap till I read the reviews lol. I have looked at the travelodge and premier inn as you know what you're getting and they did look quite central.  Husband is a bit dubious as we've never been before and thinks there'll be nothing there lol I'm quite liking the look of it 😃

I’d avoid travelodge! I always use Google earth to get a sense of where a hotel is located and what’s nearby.
  • Oh right is it that bad 😅 I think I'll stick with the premier inn then lol, I will have a little wander around with the little google map man to get an idea though thanks  😃

Unfortunately a lot of the big hotels in Southport (Prince of Wales, Scarisbrick, and since recently the Royal Clifton) are now in the hands of Britannia, so are best avoided.
