Hi all
Im having the hardest time getting roofers in for a quote, with most not available for another month or so, or not answering email/ voicemails for quotes.
I have a leaky roof, finally got someone in the other day and have been quoted £1,600 for
New lead valley = strip out slates and valley lining and reslate the sides of the valley, fit new lead to the valley, fit a few slipped slates and clear guttering.
Scaffolding is needed for the corner section of the house.
Does this sound fairly reasonable?

I think that sounds reasonable, if they do a good job. The scaffold will have added quite a bit to the quote, and lead is not cheap.
Youu might ask them what "Code" of lead they are going to fit. It should be Code 5 as a minimum, with the higher Codes (up to 8) being thicked and better. The thicker the lead, the more it will cost.
You might also ask them to confirm the maximum length of lead they ever lay as a continuous run (it should be 1.5m or less).
You might also ask them what they will charge if the find the valley support boards need replacing due to water having got to them and caused damage.
You should try to discuss this with them in a way that shows you trust them to do the work right, but you are interested in the technical details of the work. You need to be interested in the details if you want a good job doing.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1 -
