Cancelling legal with ongoing claim

Options
Hi there

If you have an ongoing no fault claim and have paid for legal cover - if you cancel your insurance (my car was written off and I don't know when I'll buy another car) are you still covered by legal to deal with your claim? Insurance does not automatically get cancelled.

My insurance is with Quote Me Happy and I have had the worst experience dealing with them.

Thanks in advance.

Have you claimed on your policy or the third parties? I don't think they'll let you cancel if the claim is on your policy and you wouldn't be due a refund until they have covered their costs.

Cancelling the ongoing policy will not affect any claims relating to incidents that happened during the term covered, no. Nor would the policy simply expiring...

I've claimed on my insurance. They have paid me market value for my car (accident was on Thurs 5th Aug). I have to use legal cover to claim my excess and any losses. The solicitors have also put in a whiplash claim but I might not pursue this as I work for NHS and can get physio as a staff benefit. I've tried phoning the solicitors (Carpenters Group) and there is no answer phone facility you have to email which I have done twice.

I am not too bothered about pursuing for losses I just would like my excess (hopefully other driver admits liability) as it was £250.

If the car has been written off then the policy normally ceases anyway so you won't be cancelling it
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Nope they do not cancel the policy! They emailed saying it is still running and say you can amend policy to add a car. They charge £56 to cancel. When I had non fault accident in past my insurance was cancelled as car written off.
