EDF TAKEOVER OF FORMER GREEN NETWORK ENERGY CUSTOMERS
EDF are applying their normal “six monthly review” process for existing customers in a situation where it is completely inappropriate for new customers joining in the middle of their six month period. For example, in my case I have paid three months direct debits and therefore I am due to pay NINE more by the time I have had TWELVE months (annual) usage.
EDF have calculated my “annual usage” and its cost, and then deducted from it what I shall have paid by the end of that period by my present direct debits. They have then divided what this "proves" I shall owe by SIX “because it will be reviewed again in 6 months time”, and then added it to my PRESENT direct debit amount! This is, as I told EDF, a “nonsense”, as by the end of their SIX month period I shall have used ONLY NINE months energy in total for which they are requiring me to pay for TWELVE months’ usage. Logically they should have divided it by NINE. That error in itself has INFLATED the addition to my D.D. by 50% more than justified by their own calculations.
SECONDLY
Although
EDF HAVE taken into account the credit I had already built up, when
calculating my actual account charges, they have NOT offset it against the
amount they claimed I would be in deficit if they did not implement the
increase in direct debit! IF you were in credit, ensure that they have taken it into account in your case.
THIRDLY
EDF are using an "estimated" annual usage to calculate the new direct debit. CHECK that this is NOT (as it was in my case) higher than your own actual usage justifies.
