Ex's Belongings

Options
my ex left all his belongings with me when he left to go and live with someone else.  Until recently he owned half of the house.  Now I own it.  How do I get him to take his belongings, they are all boxed and ready to go but are taking up a whole bedroom which I want to now use.
He has said several times he would come for them but just doesn't.  What can I do?

I'd give a written deadline and say you will dispose of yourself after that date.
And then do so if he doesn't collect.
  • Put them in black bags and take them to him: dump outside his door.

Were yo unmarried, and if so, has there been a final financial order?

If so this normally has a provision either saying that home contents belong to you or that he has until a certain date to collect them after which you are free to dispose of them.

If you were not married or didn't have such an agreement, then a written deadline is the way to go - in whic hcase I would set out the previous agreements.

    e.g.

"You confirmed to me on [date] and again on [date] that you would be collecting the items but have failed todo so.

As I am not in a position to continue to store them I do require that you collect them by no later than [date] This will need to be at a mutually convenient time andante. I can make them available for you (or your representative) to collect on [give three alternative dates] but would need to you to confirm no later than [date] which of the dates you prefer or alternatively, which alternative date you wish to proposed.

If you do not remove the items by [28 days from the date of your letter, or the latest of the three dates you've offered, if later ] then I shall take this as confirmation that you have no further interest in them and will make arrangements to dispose of the the items as I can no longer store them for you.  I am willing to consider alternative dates before [final date you've given] if the dates I have proposed are not convenient but will not under any circumstances be able to continue to store your belongings after that date"

Keep a copy pf the letter and proof of posting.

If you know his new address I would contact him and say something like if you don't come and get your belongings by x I will drop them to you at x time.

Or if you dont come and collect them by x I will be disposing of them
