How to cancel sale on ebayer as seller, without buyer being penalised?

Hi all
Following on from this thread:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6287351/could-this-be-a-scam-high-value-item-sale-on-ebay/p1
I cancelled the sale, but I feel reasonably sure the buyer was legit. I don't regret cancelling as there were enough reasons to. But giving the seller the benefit of doubt, I'd prefer to cancel the sale without him being penalised, getting a strike, or whatever. Is this possible and if so how please?
I did ask in my original thread but I think the question got buried amongst all the discussions about courier bookings, etc. And I could ask eBay, but by all accounts the advice they given isn't always the best.
So it's over to the experts here...
Cheers

You should be able to cancel without penalty on either side if you choose ‘problems with buyers address’ as that does really kind of fit the bill.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Great, thanks for that. I'll give it a go.

Hi again
I chose the above option and since then the item has been sitting at "Cancellation in progress".
On closer inspection it then says: "Order cancellation is pending - We'll ask the buyer to confirm the cancellation. Buyer has up to 10 days to confirm."
So is it just a case of waiting out the ten days now before I can do anything else?
Many thanks0
