AOL to Skt broadband problem

Hi Guys

Any help on this would be appreciated. I friend of mine is in the process of changing from aol dial up to Sky broadband. I have plugged in his router and run the set-up disk but he can't get a connection to the internet. The internet light on the router does not go green. It is well past his activation date and so the line should be activated by now. I have disconnected his old modem cable from the PC. The help CD says to check the cables and phone line and if this OK to phone their technical help. It also recommends connecting directly to the main phone socket of the house with the router but as his PC isn't wireless this isn't practical as it would mean bring the whole thing downstairs. His phone line seems to working perfectly OK upstairs. All micro filters are in place.

Just bring the router downstairs, it does not need the PC to be connected to work.
Plug it into the Master Socket and see if the internet light goes solid green.
If not remove the Master socket faceplate and try the test socket.
If this works its your extension wiring that's at fault.
If not get on to Sky and establish whether you've been activated or not.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
