Refund to different person’s account?

Hello MSE forums, first time poster but I’ve been reading regularly for a while now!
I recently bought flights for myself and my girlfriend from a travel broker that is regularly a topic on here! Due to the ongoing global situation, I did shell out extra for quibble-free cancellation - but we ended up having to cancel for a completely different non-pandemic-related reason.
I paid for the flights with my credit card, but the company in question told me that they could only refund via bank transfer and would need an IBAN. Having no idea how to get my IBAN, my girlfriend stepped in and gave her details.
so my question is… isn’t that completely dodgy? GF thinks it’s ok because her name is on one flight, of course, and her contact details on the booking, but the payment account not matching the refund account is making me very uneasy. Is that even legal?

Why do you care as long as they're giving you/her the refund? Why wouldn't it be "legal"?
If you want the refund to your account, find out the IBAN details (which are just an international version of the account number/sort code) and provide those instead.0 -
If it's making you uneasy, you need to find your IBAN details.1

Sounds like a non UK company. Many do it like this. So long as you get the correct amount back there should be no problem. But what currency did you pay them in?Life in the slow lane0

Whether paper or online account or give the CC a ring.

Its odd that they will refund by bank transfer as it means they are stuck with the credit card fees whereas hitting the refund button on their card machine/software would remove the fees too however as they are asking for IBAN they are obviously not in the UK and so local setups may be different for them.0

A Credit Card does not have a IBAN.... So only way the company can refund CC is with card details.DCFC79 said:
