Moving plants.

Options
I have some rather large squash vines that have gone mental, But we are moving :|

How well do they transplant ?

We can't leave them as we need to put the garden back to the way it was and its such a shame to rip them up and dump them.

If they have fruit on them probably not very well at all

Depending how long you have I'd pot them up & see how it goes, otherwise just put it down to experience & forget salvaging them

  • They had fruit on them the slugs have managed to have a feast :(

Looks like I will be slinging them.

(You can also relocate the vines, in place of pruning, by lightly picking them up and repositioning them elsewhere. If they have began to root, gently loosen the roots from the soil before you try to move them. The vines may appear wilted once moved, but should recover in a few days.)

It is worth a shot.  I have moved many plants that the experts say you can't move.

Prune them back if necessary and pot them up keeping as much of the rootball as possible.

If they survive - good. if they don't your no worse off than if you discard them now.

If there is good access for a HGV, have a look for "grab hire" - They can often work out cheaper than a skip.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest you do. Good luck with it all, goldfinches.
