Calorie counting works best for me…biscuits are essential!! When I’m counting calories I get the mini bags (party rings, cookies, iced gems, Jamie dodgers, animals, etc.) as they are measured (usually about 100 cals), you feel like you’ve had a fair deal as there are a number of small ones per bag and you can’t overdo it when the bag has gone. You can see I’ve thought this through 🤣

Absolutely!!  My worry would be that I could indeed overdo it by reaching for another bag...followed by another...and another...until I’m surrounded by nothing but wrappers in what looks like a biscuit graveyard!

Really need to get me some of that willpower...
When you find it - can you send me some too please....

@browneyed_girl that’s me! I bought some chocolate covered mini rice cakes. They came in little packs, very handy for calorie control except…… they were so nice I ate the whole lot! I’m better off not buying them, evil little morish  things that they are ;)

Get your ds a music starlight dreamshow by Tomy. You can set it for (I think) 5 minutes or 15 minutes. Switch it on with the same tune every bed time and eventually, when he hears the music he will just go to sleep. As well as everyday sleeping it helped settle my son when he was poorly. It also works if they wake up in tthe night. See if you can find a second hand one. My son is 16 now and although we stopped using it years ago he refuses to part with it.

That’s a good idea - thank you!  I remember trying something similar with DD1 but it never really worked for her.  DDs 2 and 3 were fantastic sleepers from 6 weeks so didn’t need to try anything like that with them.  However, anything would be better than sitting on an uncomfortable floor for up to an hour every night!

Haha!  I swear my brain is not in control of my body at moments like that!  It’s as though a mischievous alter-ego takes control!  I’ve heard sports psychologists refer to that voice in your head that tells you to do naughty things like scoffing biscuits - apparently it’s helpful to think of it as a monkey (I kid you not) and give it a name.  My monkey is called Dave.  Anytime I have a naughty moment, I give Dave a good talking to and he shuffles back into his cage until the next time he smells cake!  :D

  • Re the stewed Apple, have you tried Apple Amber? My children love Autumn / Winter so that vast quantities of this can be consumed! Mix 3 egg yolks into the stewed Apple along with a couple of oz of butter. Heat through so that the butter has melted and the yolks are mixed into the Apple. ( This gives the Amber colour). Whisk the egg whites until stiff. Fold in 6oz sugar into the egg whites.  Place on top of the Apple and cook.  If I’m making from scratch, I start off by melting the butter and then adding the apples so that they  stew in  butter, if that makes sense.

I love this idea of blaming a naughty monkey!  I need to find a name for my monkey then lol

I’m not sure blaming a monkey would stop anything? Me and the monkey would be best friends and have twice as many naughty ideas to carry out together 🤣

  • @Honeysucklelou2 Apple Amber sounds delicious!  And I do have almost two dozen eggs to hand so this would be a good use for them!  I would probably be adding cinnamon to the apples as well - I’m not sure there’s anything more warming and comforting than the combination of apple and cinnamon
