I remember my mother & sister getting their ears pierced.  I had to sit across the table from them at Sunday dinner..  The only way I could eat anything was to study my plate.  Yuck!  At least it made Christmas & birthdays easier, just chuck a pair of earrings at them.  The daft thing was that I had always worn earrings & they never had.
  • @BellaLasagna2018 It hurts a lot less than you would think!  I have 12 ear piercings and my nose done.  One thing I could never pierce is my belly button!  It’s bizarre but I can barely even touch it - it’s just such a weird body part!!
It’s funny, isn’t it? How people react to things! When I had my belly button pierced it didn’t hurt. It just felt like a pinch. With my ears, piercings x 5, I felt like Dumbo for hours after 😂 I would love my nose or eyebrow pierced but it would be seriously frowned upon at work.
@BellaLasagna2018 I have the same issue where I have to be a bit careful with what piercings I have for work.  So far, nobody has made any comments about the ears or nose, though I’m not sure what they’d say about me changing my nose stud for a ring recently.  As it is, we all have to wear face masks the whole time so nobody can see it anyway!  DH wanted me to get my lip pierced but that’s not so easy to get away with once the time comes to stop wearing masks.  At least I can keep my tongue in my mouth!! :D

  • I love nose piercings, they can look so beautiful. I wasn’t brave enough when I was young enough to carry it off 😖 Doesn’t food get caught up in a tongue piercing? I would not want anything to interfere with food 😁
@WinterWarrior  I don’t think you’re ever too old!!  I even made the comment to DH yesterday that we should be growing old disgracefully and embarrassing the children while we still can!  I like to believe that having that sort of mentality keeps you young.  I’m 33 but am always getting asked for ID in pubs and even once when buying a lottery ticket!!  It must be having some effect!

As for the food, it’s only the first few days when your tongue swells up to twice its size that you really need to worry.  After that, it’s more or less plain sailing.  I would never have anything done that interferes with my long-term ability to scoff biscuits!!

@badmemory  They had their ears pierced whilst sat down for Sunday dinner?!  That sounds terribly unhygienic!!  :o

  • So yesterday was fairly uneventful.  Best part of my day was managing to eat some of the apple and cinnamon cake that I baked.  It might just be because I’d only been managing yoghurt for the 36 hours before that, but it was quite possibly the best cake I’ve ever eaten!  :D

Spends yesterday were £20 on fuel and £12.28 on a few items we needed from eB@y.

DH has been paid today and the amount was more than I’d conservatively budgeted for.  As he had to take some time off at almost no notice because of DS being unwell last month, we expected to see that reflected in his pay.  However, it looks as though his boss has put it down as holiday so he got paid for those days after all!  Combine that with a double time bank holiday shift and we’re laughing!  I’m planning for £400-500 of his pay to go towards CCs, but I’ll have to discuss it with him in detail later.  I know that he’ll want to pick up a few treats for his days off, so won’t be a NSD today either.

Not much else to report except that for the last few weeks DS has had what look like insect bites over his legs.  We thought it was due to him playing in the garden without any trousers on, but it looks like he’s had new ones develop in the times he’s not been outside.  I’m really worried that there are fleas or bedbugs in his room, but we’ve looked everywhere and can’t see any sign of them.  Nobody else in the house seems to be affected.  We’ve also hoovered his mattress and washed all his bedding on a hot wash but it doesn’t seem to be making any difference.  The cat has her regular flea treatment, but I’m worried she might have brought something else in.  I hope we’re not going to be looking at expensive fees for an exterminator, but I’m starting to stress about it and am unsure of what to do next.  Just part of the usual Friday drama!

The "bites" could be eczema? My looked after person has similar and they don't have a pet. It's worse just now because of the heat. If you suspect fleas put white socks on and go for a walk around the house. You may have to do a couple of circuits at different times but you will have your answer by the end of the day.
  • @CRANKY40 It doesn’t look like eczema but he has previously had an odd skin complaint that we never figured out.  Cleared up with steroid cream, but it looked different.  Great idea about the socks - I’ll give it a go!!  Cat is currently banished to outdoors until this evening when DH and I are going to have the fun job of trying to keep her still so we can give her a comb and see if we find anything.

  • Could it be midge bites? They bite me, but leave MrWW alone mostly. I had 3 bites on my face overnight because one of the pesky blighters came in for a sleepover!

I was once asked to prove my age while buying plastic picnic knives when I was 36…it was a glorious glorious day 🤣 that doesn’t happen now ☹️

I'd say run it past the doctor but....my allergic reations start without fail on my hip and look exactly like a string of bites. In the past I have been told they were insect bites, flea bites and ringworm so be prepared for interesting diagnoses. The first and biggest reaction that started like that was at 14 weeks pregnant - I was allergic to the baby. The consultant said he's only ever seen two other cases during his entire career and he retired as I had the House Troll.  I'm also allergic to polyester so the winter that I tried to wear fleece pyjamas was interesting. My "looked after person's" eczema looks exactly like bites on his lower legs. He's had to have cream from the GP a few times when it gets infected.
