Driving Licence Renewal

Anyone else think it's unfair to require passport to renew your Driving Licence on line. Mine is due for renewal next month and again in 2 years time when I turn 70.

Passport is not "required" it is one option

It makes the process quicker and easier for you. They take your signature and photograph from your passport record.

It is required for online renewal, though.

How else would they get a  certified  photograph   online? for your new licence ?

The information for renewing at 70 states you need your passport number  if you wish to update your photograph

If your licence is only 2 years old then do you need to update the photograph?

If the current licence is coming up to ten years old then it's the photo that's expired.

Yes, the photograph for the current renewal but it won't have expired for the renewal in 2 years at aged 70.
 so passport details would not be required then, which is what the OP   implied in the first post.

I think the renewal next month is their issue.

That's the photocard renewal, after 10yrs.

In 2yrs, the entitlement to drive expires, on 70th birthday.
