I had fully intended to reply to this after I walked the dog this morning, but fell over and broke my ankle while I was out there! I'm now x-rayed, plastered, re-xrayed and back at home after a trip to the MIU. Fortunately I had a date bar with me because that's all I had to eat until 8.00pm this evening! If I weren't on this Challenge I wouldn't have had one in my bag, so thank goodness for that! So, let's all agree that ice-cream during this hot weather (although it's actually been raining today, but you know what I mean) pretty much doesn't really count as sugar, and I'll see if I can stay off chocolate while I'm getting used to having my mobility seriously compromised. Fracture clinic on Monday and it's quite likely they'll say I need surgery because of the type of break.I had a fairly abstemious weekend chocolate-wise. M@gnums, obvs, and a 100g bar on either Saturday or Sunday, but not both. I'm delighted by that, and I'm sure it's down to this Challenge and the weather,Better is good enough.1

Honey_bear - oh no! So sorry to hear about your broken ankle. Rest up, and wishing you a speedy recovery. Take care.2

Thank you Morning Walker. I've just taken a hefty painkiller and for the first time since it happened I'm not in pain (although the nitrous oxide interlude was helpful while they were putting my foot in the right position to plaster). That's a serious improvement!Better is good enough.1

Hope you heal quickly and that surgery goes well if you need it.

Very sorry to hear about your ankle, Honey_Bear. I hope you aren't in too much pain and that you have a speedy recovery. Good luck for your appointment on Monday 🍀 🤞.Save 12k in 2022 #26

Thank you Cookie. I've got lots of painkillers and am dosing myself up to the max and it's still pretty painful but more of a permanant stiff ache than the pain I experienced when I actually broke it, thank goodness.I'm going to do my best to stay sugar-free as normal but if I get to the point where comfort food is the only thing that will make it bearable, then so be it. I'm so glad I've got a supply of the date bars in the cupboard!Better is good enough.2

I'm glad the pain is a bit more manageable now, Honey_Bear. You are very dedicated to try and stick with your sugar-free days. I know it's the right thing to do from a long-term health perspective and it is very inspiring that you're trying to stick with it, despite your ankle. I just went to make tea and your message and dedication just stopped me from reaching for the cookies so thank you! Hope you are resting up and, ankle aside, I hope you are having a good day.Food-wise, I seem to be extra hungry this week but I'm not sure why. I managed to get another sugar-free day yesterday but I'm already having some serious cravings today so I hope I will stay motivated for the rest of the day. Friday is just around the corner and I know I'll be having some chocolate then

Thank you Cookie - I'm glad that my ankle is doing some good out there in the wider world! Hang on in there, because, as you say, it's nearly Friday. Well done for getting this far this week, too. I have yet to discover what it is that sets the cravings off and I'd dearly love to know because some days like today I don't get any at all, and other days they're so bad I feel like chewing the table leg!As for me, yesterday I was surprisingly fine regarding sugar well, let's be honest, it's chocolate in my case, just chocolate really. I made the mistake of 'treating' myself to a date bar after dinner as a dessert but it gave me terrible indigestion so I won't be doing that again. One at teatime is enough from now on, but I don't even feel like that today so I won't bother with it.It may be helping that our fig tree is giving up lovely fruit every day at the moment, and that's only from the branches we can reach. The birds and the squirrels get the ones at the top and there are masses and masses this year. It feels particularly special because I helped plant those two trees 30 years ago.Better is good enough.2

Chocolate is my problem too. The only way I can resist it is by not buying it. I can't have it in the house and not eat the whole thing at once, however big the bar. I get so disappointed in myself. If there's no chocolate I sometimes have a problem with biscuits but I'm not quite so addicted to them. I wish I had more willpower but maybe I'm too old to change now.
