I was so sorry to read about Layla.   I have never forgotten my last dog and she died over 11 years ago.  We couldn't do it again.  You will be helping another dog very soon x

Well, well done to those of you that are doing so well, and I'm sending hugs to those who are not doing so well or having other problems.
I've been AWOL for a few days as had a family problem to deal with and resulted in my eating far too much sugar. I have had cakes; chocolate wafer bars and maltesers. Things I don't even normally eat.   I had originally bought them for my GK's as I was looking after them as GS4 is in hospital (thankfully on the mend now). But you know what its like, you give them one and then have one yourself.   Do I feel guilty?  Actually no, not really.  In the back of my mind I knew it was only a temporary thing and that I would get back to being healthy again soon.  It got me through a tough couple of days and I'm pretty sure that had the situation carried on, I would have found the strength to stop eating rubbish as, I knew it wasn't doing me any good and I was thinking I couldn't afford to be ill as my DD and family needed me to help them.

So there we are. That's where I'm at and now moving forward, to become a new healthier me.
Hope everybody has a good day.

Good for you Making.  There are times when we eat stuff we'd be better off not eating, but I like the way you've dealt with it.  It isn't the end of the world if we have a few days here and there when we indulge, and as you say, it was a temporary thing.  I'm really glad the situation has resolved.
Thank you Polly Bear for your kind words.  I adopt older dogs so I go through this more frequently than other people, but it's always worth it.  The only thing that makes the pain bearable is to adopt another dog as soon as I can find one, but I know that's not the way most people cope with losing a much loved animal.  Fortunately, all being well, our new dog, another ex-breeding b!tch from the same rescue that Layla came from; it depends on when she's spayed and how smoothly that goes.  Fingers crossed for her.
My weekend was relatively well-balanced - a couple of biscuits with tea in the afternoon, and a small tub of homemade icecream with the last of the homemade strawberry jam that doesn't set as a kind of sauce.  All good stuff, no chemicals in the homemade stuff, and a minimum of sugar.  I tossed around the idea of having a bit of chocolate on Saturday but didn't, so I'm pleased with that.
    Better is good enough.

Thankyou. GS4 is still in hospital, and as he is so young (under 2 yrs old), DD has had to stay with him. He's on the mend, but looks like being in there a few more days yet, so doing granny duties for the others....lol.  Just so grateful that the drs were brilliant and worked out what the problem was and got it sorted.

I'm not surprised you resorted to comfort eating.  Terrifying for everyone.  I hope the little scrap recovers with no lasting or lingering aftereffects.  *Healing vibes* heading his way.

While I'm on here today, just to say - sticking to the sugarfree thing suddenly appears to be much easier now than it was in December, January and the early part of Febrary.  I really struggled with it and now don't seem to be doing so.  I'd like a biscuit, I'd enjoy chocolate if I allowed myself to eat any, but I'm not tempted enough to actually eat any.  I think the fact that it's Lent is helping.
    How's everyone else doing?

Well the weekend was a bit of a disaster, having said what I just said before it.  On Saturday I dug a packet of rather nice ginger biscuits out of the cupboard and about 30 minutes later threw the various bits of packaging away because I'd finished the whole box.  At least they weren't chocolate ones.
Sunday we spent seven hours in the car driving to go and pick up the new dog.  On the way back, while filling up with petrol Belovéd spied a bag of three doughnuts reduced to 50p, I bought them and then discovered that there was a good reason they were reduced - stale - and filled with a chocolately gunge instead of jam.  Nonetheless I ate one.  Rubbish sugar, and Lent-breaking chocolate.  Disappointing, particularly as I got through Friday evening without any sugar, because I couldn't have a chocolate-covered m@gnum.
    How was every else's weekend?
    Better is good enough.

How is your new dog settling in HB?   I'd love to see a photo in time.

Don't even want to talk about sugar!  But I haven't given up.  Just start every day hopefully and take any little wins I can.
