How on earth did he do that? You can't possibly properly see whether you are an inch away from the other car.

It's a serious question, I would love to learn that.

    Not that hard.
All you need to know is know how much of your car you can't see, and to just remain calm and not panic.

A reversing camera makes the back dead easy, but it's not impossible without. Since it's in the US, it'll be an automatic, too, so just let it idle-creep forward and backward.
  • I'd be more impressed if he reversed into that space but not that hard to get out of as was shown.

I am used to parking or getting out of tight spots since where I live there is only on street parking but not chance in hell I could pull this one off.
  • Also loads of cars parked in New York have this thing called a bumper bully, basically a rubber mat which hangs from the back of the car, so it doesn’t matter too much if the cars make slight contact.

Ah, I remember the days when cars had bumpers that you could use for bumping. Now if you look at them too hard they crack.

In The Olden Days I once had a proper American car. The bumpers were for bumping (and starting the car by running another one into the back of it and pushing), and the jack actually lifted the car using the bumper as the jacking point.

Pedestrian impact protection, crumple zones etc. hadn't been invented.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

They had elsewhere in the world, but - along with fuel efficiency, non-risible specific power outputs, and standardised logical measurements - the US had dismissed them as irrelevant, largely due to "not invented here"

    Piece of cake!  :D

I’d like to see how he’d have fared in a 1973 Ford Cortina with a manual gearbox and no power steering.
