This is an “over the garden fence” type
thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit
more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to
discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve
achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet
up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join
us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning, it's a fineish start here, yesterday was cool and windy with the odd shower.I gave the kitchen a good clean yesterday, it looks better for it. We could do with some new vinyl flooring down I think, might look into that.We went shopping to a large Morries yesterday, and I resisted the clothes, though they don't have as much in the way of clothes as the other supermarket chains.Sorry to read that you won't be getting away in your van this year Nanny, but look forward to next year, hope you will then.Bella, that stained glass window sounds lovely.Hope you had a good nights' sleep last night DP1.I don't know what we're doing today, might get out for a walk.I hope everyone has a good Sunday, thinking of our poorly people, and those who aren't posting at the moment.Take care folks13

Morning folks and thanks for the start SCARLET. It promises to be another mix of showers, snippets of blue sky and general dismalness today. This weather is getting depressing now, I want the sunshine back.
I don't like boxing, either men or womens, but couldn't resist watching Lauren Price go for gold just now. Well done her! And well done Team GB, you have done us proud. I have spent (wasted) far too much time Games watching this time and come tomorrow I might be able to start catching up on neglected jobs!
I unearthed some roast beef in gravy in the freezer so that is earmarked for lunch with assorted veggies. I have a surplus of carrots, thanks to Tesco subbing me an enormous bag of carrots instead of a small one, so I am planning on making a big pan of carrot and swede mash to use most of them up. I shall freeze it in individual portions once its cool.
NAN sorry you won't be getting away in your caravan this year. It sounds like a good idea to check out a permanent site for your van it's so much easier, but sadly more costly! BELLA ooh a stained glass window I have serious envy! Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, poorly loved ones and our MIA. POPPY I hope you are feeling more comfortable. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning all
Very blustery here and quite cold I really hope that this is not the end of summer. Beds have been stripped and the wm is on will hang it out for a while as there is a good wind.
I woke up starving this morning so will do a bacon and egg sandwich after this. Dinner will be hm pizza I think and salad, well kind of hm as they do ready made bases in Mr A now so we can put our own toppings on they always taste better that way.
Will get the pups out for a good walk later providing the rain holds off, if it stays nice we will pack a sandwich and go for a nice long walk.
I did a bit of gardening yesterday so it all looks nice out there, there are a few gaps so I went up to the local garden centre but it all looked a bit ropey, perhaps its too late in the year, I will have another look today or tomorrow.
Have good days all xxx13 -
Morning All
It's quite gloomy out this morning, we've had heavy rain for the last 24 hours so the garden is looking a bit soggy. At least I haven't had to water anything!
Lunch was good yesterday, I made toad in the hole with a vegan offering for DD and family (it was a bit stodgy but they put gravy on) with lots of fresh veggies from the allotment, just enough left for my lunch today.
I'm collecting the DGC this afternoon for a few days, hope the weather cheers up. I'm in the middle of making a birthday cake for DGD, she will be 10 next week but we'll have a birthday tea for her here as I'll not see them again for a few weeks.
TA - I've spent too long watching the Olympics too but it's worth it, I loved the speed climbing and the modern pentathlon particularly.
Hope you're settling in to your new way of life Gers.
Thinking of you Poppy.
Right, must go in the shower and get on with the day. Take care. XX12 -
Good morning everyone
It has stopped raining here for the minute but we are forecast a wet and windy day so everyone is staying put apart from poor Phoebe who had to leave at 5.30am for work. She actually went out on Friday with her friends from work but spent all day yesterday feeling rather 'delicate' so she's a bit cross as she feels she wasted one of her precious days off with a hangover. I am just amazed that she went out in the first place as apart from work, she doesn't leave the house.
There was a farmers market on in a village near us yesterday and Lee went to have a look. He came back very soggy but happy to have gone. He said the queues were massive but managed to snag some sourdough bread, smoked salmon and a box of peaches. He is going again next month and hopefully the weather will be better.
Today is all about the cooking for me. I am going to make a corned beef stew/stovies thing for dinner and I am also planning to roast a tray of veg, make a load of chaffles ( some kind of cheesy waffle bread alternative) and make some scotch eggs. That should keep me out of mischief today.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx13 -
Morning everyone.Yesterday morning was mostly lovely, sunshine and weak wind. I was out in the garden cutting back some plants, especially the out of control clematis which is climbing up the roof of the steading wall. Roses and hookeri also got deadheaded and bits of the wall hydrangea pulled off which were heading to cover the kitchen window. The bee lodge I'd ordered from Friends of the Earth arrived so I put that on the south facing wall in the garden. Who knows if there are mason bees here or if they'll even spot or like the new construction.Just after all that activity the thunder rolled across the sky and cracked the clouds open to give us another deluge. Not as fierce or as long-lasting as the one on Friday but still worth watching for a while. The swallows gathered on the telephone line outside my door and all flapped their wings and tails madly. I like to think they were taking a shower as they seemed to enjoy it.The idea of flying to Berlin to visit my favourite cousin (my brother-in-lieu) occurred to me so I began checking for flights. It's really a non-starter still as there are no direct flights yet. I don't want to spend four hours in Paris or even two hours in London in transit. I'll be patient and wait a bit longer.I started to empty one big bag brought down from Glasgow and stalled. The large pieces of furniture and so on had no emotional hold on me but these wee bits are different. Things like my DMs two favourite knives - one a paring knife without a sharp tip and one very old iron one from my grandmother. And then there's the small ziplock bag in which DM kept her wee face mirror, a lens cloth, a tablet stylus and a pen, she used this bag every day. When she was able to get up and go to the loving or dining rooms she'd load up the zimmer box with the bag, her iPad, a scarf etc. It's more a part of her being than a wardrobe.Today I plan to mostly relax in a semi-busy way. I'll do bits and pieces but without stressing myself. There's bags in the car which need to come indoors and then stuff to go out into the car for the tip. I need one of those larger conveyor belts seen in airports. 😀
Ah well..it'll work our in the end.I hope that everyone is safe and dry and that our poorlies are doing OK. Happy Sunday to all.12 -
Morning all; bit dull here this morning
I shall miss watching the Olympics but yesterday I also managed to get a SM shop done and do a couple of loads of washing.
In between the showers we also managed to sort out the newly enlarged bed under the plum tree, which involved adding 7 bags of top soil and moving some plants around. Think we still need to get another couple of bags of top soil in there and then see what else we want to plant. Have also booked a tip run tomorrow to get rid of the garden waste as our green bins aren't being emptied at the moment.
This afternoon I'm hosting an outdoor music session at a park in Bedford. Only expecting a handful of people and it might be even fewer if it rains. DH is cooking a roast whilst I'm out, involving pork chops with stuffing and roast carrots.
Have a restful Sunday everyone.

Hello all, I'm bringing up the rear again ! It's freezing today...... and wet again.Had an awful day yesterday, the washing got soaked and had to be washed again and then dried indoors. We also got soaked taking down the fence but now we know why it's squeaking so Mr Fit It will do what he does best and fix that.Today isn't off to a good start either as DD is in A&E in North Wales having x-rays on both feet/ ankles 😱 She tripped and fell over a step in the kitchen of their holiday cottage so I hope she hasn't broken anything. I'll be sitting by the phone waiting for news and I shall watch the Olympic closing ceremony. We have minted lamb chops for tea tonight, I'll have mine with new pots and veg, looking forward to that, although everything I've eaten has upset my tummy lately.Gong to love you and leave you now.Take care all.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11

Afternoon, hugs if you need one. Sorry I am a bit late to the table today.
Gers, its fine to take time out and remember things. someone else's belongings do that.
Late getting up this morning. Usual breakfast in bed.
I was upset last night, discovered a diamond missing from my ring. I had caught it earlier in the day but did not realise the stone had come out. Thankfully its not the big centre one, but one of the smaller ones. I will have to take it in and get it replaced and also the claws checked on the other stones.
Stressing a bit about Tuesday, driving to a strange place, there are bound to be a lot of people we do not know which always fazes me. We are not sure how many of the grandchildren will be going.
Lamb for supper tonight, veggies prepped. No dessert.6 -
Afternoon everyone
I've been down to sit with my dad and do his computer jobs while mam was at church. She was lucky - there was a big shower before she went and it stayed dry till she got home. I wasn't so lucky - there was a downpour as I was walking down to the shops. I had a brolly so my top half was dry but from the knees down I was soaked through!
Planning on having a nice peaceful afternoon with my paper and my book as DD and little one have gone out for the day.
She had a great time at the soft play yesterday - it was good as it was quieter than it would usually be as only limited numbers are allowed in. She was shattered when we came home.
I had a lovely sleep last night and didn't wake up till almost 9 this morning.
Gers I am flying with Lufthansa to Frankfurt and then get the train to Nuremberg which takes over 2 hours. It's going to be a long day as I will leave home before 8. Better when I come home again as DD and I are both staying at an airport hotel at Frankfurt the night before I fly. The morning I come home she is going to Rome, then Naples and Sorrento as she still has a week off work. She gets about a bit!
Well I have a couple of jobs to do and then it's feet up for the afternoon.
Hope everyone has a good day
