This is an “over the garden fence” type
thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit
more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to
discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve
achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet
up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join
us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning, it's a fine start here, yesterday was a miserable showery day and quite cool.Hope you got sorted out at your Mum's place Gers, and that your journey home was ok.TA, enjoy playing with your steam cleaner, I've never had one, I have considered it though. Did your Dgd enjoy her birthday, you're right about the years slipping away so quickly, it's frightening.Bella, hope the behaviourist can help Ddog, poor thing.Maddie, it sounds as if you may be in for a fraught time, there's nothing like a death for bringing out the worst in people, particularly if a situation was simmering to start with.Hi Mehefin, good to hear from you.We didn't do any sorting of books yesterday. DH decided to put the charger for the new vacuum on the wall in the little hell hole we call a utility room, and we ended up taking practically everything out, and giving it a proper clean, then rearranging stuff as we put it back. It doesn't get done often enough really, but looks nice for now.I must admit, the books were forgotten about, but there's no hurry, they are stacked in the spare bedroom. I don't think we'll make our fortune from them (!) .Went to a friend's last night, we had a good chat, it's good to get back to doing the things that we just took for granted before Covid.I think a biggish shop is on the cards today, maybe go to one of the big supermarkets for a change, but if we do I must keep away from the clothes. We are going away for a fortnight in just over a week, so I must start thinking about that - I try and plan it so I don't take too many clothes as we only have a small wardrobe in the caravan, it's difficult though, because our weather changes so much.Hope everyone has a good Saturday anyway, take care folks.11

Morning all and its been raining all night and still raining now I dropped DS off as he is working today and all the roads locally are flooded so I took big car as I dont think little car would have coped but people were still driving like fools glad i have front and rear cameras. Tonight our friends are coming to try to sort out a holiday with us so any uk suggestions for a week would be gratefully received preferably adult only we need to book soon as September is already booked out in a lot of places . The dog lady came yesterday and she thinks Miss D was probably from a traveler site as she appears to be saluki, lurcher, jack russel cross so ideal size for lamping and hunting she will probably never be able to walk off lead unless in a fenced field as her prey drive is so high but we have some homework to do to try and settle her anxieties and luckily i found a tin of spam in the back of a cupboard so that's all cut up and bagged for the weekend walks.
My stained glass window was removed yesterday from the landing to be sent for restoration and to be put in a double glazed unit so the space is now boarded up and very dark on the stairs it should hopefully be back by the end of September
Gers I hope you are safely home and that your last visit to your mums flat left you with happy memories
Maddie Sorry to hear that there are family issues hopefully they will sort themselves out
Right Have a great weekend whatever you are up to stay safe and dry

Morning All
Very showery here this morning with worse to come apparently. We were lucky here yesterday, plenty of thunder but we managed to miss the heavy downpours thankfully. When the sun came out it was quite hot but one of those days that make you all sweaty with a raincoat on!
Hope you had one last look around Gers, you've done a tremendous job clearing the flat. Now it's time to take stock and look after yourself.
Good to hear from you Mehefin.
What a shame there are family squabbles Maddie, it's a hard time already without family falling out.
I love the sound of your stained glass window bella, good luck with the pup.
I have friends coming for lunch today which should be good, I think DD and family are coming too. The other DGC are coming tomorrow for a couple of days to help out with childcare, lots planned for them including swimming a couple of times, their pool is still closed for repair.
Hope you all have a good weekend, take care. XX11 -
Good morning all. Bright and sunny here so have one load of washing in the machine, hoping to hang it out in a while.
Currently drinking tea and watching Tom Daley in the diving; always a nail biting time.
Plans yesterday got put on hold so I need to do a SM shop this morning, although I did manage to get my cataract operation booked for October. DS didn't arrive until 6.30pm and, as expected, offloaded far more more than just a bike to live in the garage. We don't mind really as it will be at least another 6 years before he is able to settle in one place for work.
We are looking at a few days away on the Isle of Wight in September. DH is keener than me but I think I will book somewhere that I can cancel at short notice so then I'll feel happier about it.
Enjoy your weekend everyone and I hope GERS had a good breakfast at the hotel yesterday.10 -
Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off Scarlet. The wee hotel I was in on Thursday night was really lovely, so much so that I've booked it for my next four visits. I've three more dental appointments for the implants and then the celebration of my DM's life which I've organised.A neighbour helped me down to the car, he worked hard. I gave him some things for his son who had got his first flat. The home clearance company arrived very promptly to remove the final items of furniture. Despite the very humid weather they worked quickly and efficiently, taking the time to remove doors from wardrobes etc to get it all out. They certainly earn their money and I heavily tipped them too. I did a final walk around, checking cupboards, and took some photos. Apart from two things to be collected later by the cleaner the flat is empty. My work and life with DM is done. I have to focus on here now.The predicted storms only started to appear when I was at the dentist so I missed the thunder and lightning in Glasgow. I drove through heavy rain until Luss when everything cleared and the rest of my trip was in glorious sunshine. At home I had about an hour of the same until the torrential rain arrived. It was bouncing off the track making such a noise. As for today...no idea! My car needs to be emptied and there's piles and piles of stuff to sort through. Maybe not just yet though.Bella - your dog sounds like Tru's Scamp was when she first got him. Sorry, I've never had a dog so haven't got any useful advice. I hope you have a breakthrough soon. The stained glass restoration is brilliant.Camelot- enjoy the lunch.Poppy - I was so glad to see you posting the other day though I'm sorry you're in such pain.Happy Saturday to all.12

Morning everyone
Scarlet - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright, sunny start to the day, mixture of sun and showers forecast for the weekend.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and a brekkie bar. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was chicken goujons, chips and beans for the mefnolk, I had fish and veg. Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be having as DS1 is going to a friends for dinner.
Booked some time away in November so looking forward to that.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, dry and windy here, not looked at up to date forecast yet.
Yesterday was absolutely fine, the information was accepted without murmur so all good. Lots of reminiscences and laughter while we sorted everything out for the funeral and then dealt with the remainder of DM's possessions. We had cleared her house for sale a couple of years ago, so not very much to rehome.
Scarlett thank you for new thread, today's main job is sorting clothes out for tomorrow, knickers, bras, jamas and vest tops all that is done so far, so at least I will be decent.
Bella pleased that dog person had some good tips.
Gers hope all has gone well with final sorting of the flat.
Camelot you are in for a busy, but fun sounding time.
Wicked Lady I hope you can find a suitable holiday, not been to the IOW even though we lived in West Dorset for 30 years.
Have a good day all, I will hopefully look in from time to time next deep wifi dependent though. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)10 -
Hi everyone,
Gers (and Wicked Lady I think), I will make a note of that hotel it sounds lovely and I'm sure we will have to stay in Glasgow in the future.
Bella, I hope you have success with the dog. Laura is wondering about seeing a behaviourist with Ziggy, she hasn't been totally happy since Esben was born and they are jealous of each other. Hopefully as he grows older they will become much better friends.
We spent the last three days with him. Wednesday at theirs and then Laura and Esben came home ith us until last night. It wasn't planned but Laura had to finish her last assignments for College by midnight Thursday. Esben should have been in nursery but it was closed because the manager had Covid. Brian had things to do as well so I looked after Esben (Steve had a golf match) and Laura managed to finish with 20 minutes to spare. Then we had a lovely day with the two of them yesterday before they went home. They'll be back next weekend when Brian goes away to a birthday celebration.
Anyway, I'd better go because we are packing the van to go to the Lakes for a week. The forecast is the usual weather when I go to the Lakes, wet, wet, wet. Maybe it won't be as bad as I fear. It's our 42nd anniversary on Wednesday and we'll be going to Cartmel for a nice meal. Hopefully, I will be able to post over the next few days if we have wifi signal.12 -
Morning. Hugs if you need one.
Thoughts with Gers this morning as she starts the rest of her life after looking after her Mum so well and coping with clearing the flat.
Its a sunny morning, but quite a breeze, washer is on with a small load of whites, During the summer DB does not wear a vest, so the white wash gets left until there is a reasonable load to do. It should dry ok.
The garden is starting to die back, so we will start pruning next week, clematis need pruning as does the rose on the fence. Two if the roses we liberated from our neighbours garden appear to have taken, both are showing signd of growth at the base.
The back bedroom is back to normal. Chap came and sanded down the filler, gace the wall two coats of paint and moved the bed back for me, so all the huge cardboard boxes are back under the bed and the room set to rights.
Ironing came back yesterday so have to put that away this morning. I really need to have a root round in the cupboard, I know there is stuff in there which I will never use, it needs to go out.
DB weighed himself this morning he is under 12 stone, which is going in the right direction. He will be out in the garden this morning.
Supper tonight will be all day breakfast, no dessert.

Morning folks and thanks Scarlet. I am a latecomer this morning but I have a note! I got the early bus into town, my regular Saturday little jaunt. There was nothing I was in dire need of but I needed to post a birthday card to Oz. We lost our Post Office up here a few years back and it seems such a farce having to go into town just to get a card weighed and posted. I swear the price goes up with every card I send. £2.50 to send a card is scandalous, it now costs more than the price of the card being posted!
I am awaiting delivery of my new steam cleaner today and hoping it's a bit easier to transform from handheld to stick. My now defunct one was really difficult to change over and ended up just getting used as a stick cleaner for the floors as I cba struggling with it!
No sign of the rain here yet but, once again, showers are forecast. No plans to spoil. It'll be another day of spending too much time watching the Olympics (the story of the last two weeks!)
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. GERS enjoy the rest of your life and enjoy yourself, you really have earned it. BELLA poor little dog, fingers crossed help is at hand. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"10
