To be fair no one needs to cover the cost of special delivery. Even with consumer rights basic postage costs is all the retailer needs to pay, enhanced postage is down to the sender.
This sounds like a warranty claim to me, I may be wrong, but as the OP spoke to Garmin (and I haven't read their previous thread) then the 'send back for a replacement' is a standard warranty statement. In which case the OP is bound by the T&C, which usually ask the buyer to return at their cost/cover.

Edit - I have now clicked through the OP's link and it was purchased in January 2019, so I'm sure it's a warranty replacement.
Also item was purchased from another retailer and not Garmin themselves.

You've been around long enough to have read plenty of posts of the nature "XXXX got my item back but say the box was empty/the box contained a faulty item/box contained rocks".

I know you're protective about RM, and certainly I'd trust RM more than certain couriers. But what I always do now when returning items of any value is take a video of the item in the packaging, and of the packaging being sealed and weighed.

Perhaps overkill and possibly not even dispositive if it came to court, but it makes me feel more protected if the item mysteriously goes missing or the receiving company play silly buggers. Not had a problem yet.
