Not when using the smartphone FD app with a digital secure key. FD arguably have the simplest and quickest way way to add new payees on a smartphone - no need to faff around with a physical card reader or 2FA codes.pbartlett said:You typically need codes to add new payees for example.1 -
Yes you do need to add codes - it is just that the digital secure key on your phone does it for you in the background when you use fingerprint.JenB79 said:

I have a question about the FD/HSBC digital secure key - does it work in an area with zero/low mobile phone reception?I have recently moved to an area where mobile reception is very poor and doing 2FA via my phone is annoying if there isn't a land-line alternative (I have to go to the bottom of the garden and hope I get enough bars for it to work).0

I've just done a test on my phone by putting it into 'airplane mode' (ie no wifi and no mobile signal) and the FD app was still able to generate a login code which allowed me to login to FD's desktop banking site on my pc. So the answer is yes.Spreadsheetman said:I have a question about the FD/HSBC digital secure key - does it work in an area with zero/low mobile phone reception?1 -
But is useless to them as far as accessing your banking goes.someone said:Keep in mind many do not want or need to be carrying around full access to their accounts especially on a device that can be snatched by someone on a moped.
You can lose or break the keypad. Do that on a friday afternoon after the bank has shut and you can not do anything till monday at best either calling into a branch or waiting for the post.
Plus & minus with both ways of doing it. Everyone has different needs. 👍Life in the slow lane0 -
My FD physical secure key is still working after over 11 years on the same battery.
