Car registration number and number plate not matching BMW Used Approved...
Just came across a vehicle on BMW used approved.
https://www.group1auto.co.uk/bmw/used-cars/5-series-saloon/m-sport/520d-m-sport/2440443
The car reg is supposed to be GY17 WZG but the printed number plate on the car is showing GW17 WZG.
Surely, someone would have noticed that during "official BMW" inspection and preparation? if it had any done to it...

GY17 WZG is indeed a BMW 5 series whereas GW17 WZG doesn't exist at all, probably a simple explanation but one only the dealers can give you.tasticz said:Just came across a vehicle on BMW used approved.

I think in this day and age with all the online checkers available to buyers it's highly unlikely any underhanded dealings are going on but your right to check everything especially with the car supposedly being "official BMW".1 -
It's entirely possible that the dealer selling it has put their own plates on, with their logo on. Perhaps a previous plate has been transferred off it.
I don't think you can extrapolate much from it, other than there's a halfwit in the garage making plates up, and somebody dropped a furry one when taking the pics.2 -
I was checking to see whether the car would be subjected to the additional £335 road tax but was surprised it didn't work.onlyfoolsandparking said:

Not saying anything dodgy is going on.
Also, not the end of the world but it is something I would have expected to be covered as part of official BMW used car checks but clearly not in this case so is the car just valeted prior to being advertised or what?0 -
or someone pressed wrong button when they reprinted the number plate and wanted to add their branding / contact details below the plateAdrianC said:It's entirely possible that the dealer selling it has put their own plates on, with their logo on. Human error - it happens - I collected a Merc a few years ago that had different plates on the front and back and didn't realise (nor did anyone else) for 3 weeks2

Sometimes car dealers clean the cars but don't do the full prep and valet until they have sold it.Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.1

My father in law was driving his car for over 12 months with the wrong plates front and back, bought from Volvo main dealer. Turned out the person fitting them when new had mixed up plates for 2 cars so they both had ones that didn't match.k3lvc said:Human error - it happens - I collected a Merc a few years ago that had different plates on the front and back and didn't realise (nor did anyone else) for 3 weeksRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1
