I never gave such advice. I agree that would be a poor suggestion.callum9999 said:
No, your suggestion of getting a BA card and converting to nectar is the naff advice!WillPS said:jpsartre said:WillPS said:jpsartre said:Don't bother would be my advice. You'll be better off getting a card that gives cashback or something like the AmEx Nectar card that allows you to earn points for use in Sainsburys.
Avios is directly interchangeable with Nectar points, so you can earn points to spend at Sainsbury's with a BA credit card (and vice versa).
I know..
Seems pretty naff advice you're giving out then? Don't get an air miles card, get a card which does Nectar points (e.g. an air miles card)?
There are very few scenarios where an airmiles credit card will earn more nectar points than a nectar credit card.
And to reiterate the point already made, there's not much value in using airmiles to fly economy to Western Canada.
My point was that Avios and Nectar points are not mutually exclusive, they are almost one and the same, so suggesting not collecting air miles and going for Nectar points instead to use in JS completely ignores the fact you can collect in either currency and transfer as you see fit at the point of use.0 -
My apologies then, not that I have any idea why you'd bring up earning nectar points with a BA card if you already knew it was a bad option and don't suggest they do it!WillPS said:

I didn't mention the BA card, my point was that you shouldn't just count out Avios-earning cards on the grounds that air miles are less useful than Nectar points.callum9999 said:

I wouldn't have challenged you if you didn't call their correct advice "naff" while giving incorrect advice yourself!0 -
My first credit card was a Lloyds Avios Amex/MC duo and had a raft of reward cards since then...Deleted_User said:Given your thin credit file, you're probably going to need to get a generic or sub prime card in the first instance.
Then see what type of reward card might suit you best for later on.0 -
The keyword is 'probably'. A thin creditfile makes it less likely to be approved for the more attractive reward cards.

Lot depends on your income and other credit history. It's perfectly possible to have a prime card as your first if the lender considers you worth the riskThe_Urbanite said:
