Simbio has also increased prices for new customers and are no longer the cheapest for electricity in my area. No real reason to be with them if they are not the cheapest.

Comparison sites are still showing Symbio as the lowest cost for low or high usage, but they do not cater for Symbio's pricing games.

  • When you go and buy sky or virgin there’s usually a promotional offer, similar with insurance, the first year is usually always a better offer. If you don’t like the offer available move on to someone else, you’re not stuck with one provider.
The FCA are starting to crack down on that as far as insurance is concerned.
"Car and home insurers are to be banned from charging existing customers more at renewal than they would expect to pay when taking out a new policy with the same firm..."

Lots of reports of Symbio customers being blocked from leaving, usually due to some outrageous bill Symbio have dreamt up to ensure the customer's account is in debit at time of attempting to switch away.
As someone posted, Symbio Energy seem to be the Hotel California of electricity suppliers.

The operative word is “starting to crack down”, it has been rife in that industry, so symbios practice is nothing new.

it is a bit wild Wild West with symbio, but they have been the cheapest for sometime which is why people have stuck with them and persisted despite their odd practices.

symbio blocking customers from leaving is frustrating. They did it to me too but was easily reversed if you know what you’re doing and didn’t delay my switch out.

the key with symbio is you have to be on the ball and pro active, if you’re not they’re definitely not for you.

as soon as they’re no longer the cheapest people will leave in big numbers. There’s no point whinging about it though. Prices have gone up across the board.
  • Feeling peeved. Just been put on a new tariff.

Fair and Green Standard Renewal B2.2.
    Unit rate 20.408p/kwh
    Standing Charge 21.00p/day.

However I now discover that new Symbio Customers can sign up to a fairer rate than existing loyal customers. How can this be?

Low Fair and Green Variable SE03 v24
    Standard Unit Rate
    14.982 p per kWh
    Standing Charge
    19.000 p per day

Symbio are charging existing loyal customers more this is what they say "On the contrary, we have absorbed as much of the cost of wholesale increases as possible" What Symbio don't want to tell us is that they could absorb more on behalf of existing customers but they do not want to because that would mean Symbio could not offer such good deals to new customers.

That 14.982p rate is variable, which means it might (will?) not last.  Symbio don't really want any customers at that rate.  There is no loyalty in the energy market, either way. Just look for a better deal with someone else.  Same happened to me BTW, and the best 1 year fix I could find last month was 16.5p
  • As long as Symbio do not go belly-up, I will stick with them at 12.283p until 31 May 2022, and see what renewal deal they offer me!

I very much doubt Symbio will even be around at the end of the month, let alone next May

It's in my interest that they don't but maybe the only thing that's helping them survive is their dirty practices and not paying out final bill refunds. That can only go on for so long though.
