New build energy question
In about three weeks time we're planning to take possession of a new build. As we've been out of the UK for many years, and living off-grid on our narrowboat, we don't have previous utility supplier history.
Is this going to cause us problems? Should we expect a few huge bills until things settle? We will be taking a photo of the any meter readings on the day we move in.
Thanks for any advice

Find out from your builder who the supplier is. On the day the property becomes yours read the meters take photos and ring that supplier. You will then become their customer but on a standard (ie expensive tariff)
You can then contact a new supplier - if its a new build gas heated property use 2900 kWh for electric consumption and 10000 kWh for the gas. To find the best supplier use a comparison site like Which? or Citizens Advice - look at whole of market.
Don't forget to read your meter every month (even if its "Smart") - keep your own records and read and understand those statements/bills.
Your bills may be a little higher initially as the property dries out.
PS Don't forget the WaterNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill2 -
Thank you very much Robin, I'm sure we'll get into the 'swing' of this.
