Do you actually need probate? Is there a property or accounts where they are asking for probate?
Yes the estate is above the threshold.
What threshold are you referring to?
As Poppystar asked if I need probate, I was referring to the inheritance tax thresholds, as the estate exceeds the lower limit. While nobody has asked for it, it's my understanding that it is my  legal responsibility to have applied it.
I wasn’t sure from your post whether in fact you had got all monies without probate being necessary and if so, if there was no property, you probably would not need probate.

If there is a property and you have inherited from your mother then have you added applicable the RNRB allowances on to the basic IHT threshold of £325k?

Apologies if you have this covered as you say you are waiting for probate to be granted so assume you have filled in the relevant IHT forms.

Thanks, Poppystar and nothing to apologise for,I appreciate any interest and help! Yes, I added the applicable RNRB because she left the property to me and presumably filled in the right forms on the basis of that, i.e. the RNRB will mean the estate is below the IHT threshold.

Actually seeing your post earlier made me review my process and I realised I had done it wrong. I sent IHT205 with the probate application and mentioned on the form that I understood that as I'm the only significant beneficiary that the estate is below the threshold for a direct descendant being left the property, but I now realise it should have gone on an IHT400 with an IHT 435 and the probate application should have followed later. I've sent them an e-mail saying I just realised this, but of course things will now get very messy. :(
