Car Dealer Extras

Hello,
off it a dealer to view a 2-year-old car today and I'd appreciate a little advice.
I was just sent this morning a purchase form stating the pricing, which is now 1600 above the advertised price. It now includes:
Diamondbrite 300
Fuel Charge 300
Motor Assured Warranty 600
Insrauce 300
there are also a few other items under the heading "Dealer Fitted Items
as far as my untrained but quite well researched analysis can see the car is still a pretty good price (low milage and 1 owner) but I do not want to be oversold if possible so only want to buy what I need.

Fuel Charge £300???? Thats nuts.
Politely say no to everything.
Heres the Diamondbrite product. Can be bought for £12.50.

Warranty - they are obliged to warrant the car, and third party warranties are usually poor.
The car is under manufacturers warranty anyway, so why would you pay for something on top?
Insurance? What for? Decline it.
Dealer fitted items? Find out what they are - likely £10 mats off ebay that they're charging you £80 for. Decline them.
If they cant sell you the car at the advertised price, walk and go find someone who will.3 -
Cant believe they're trying to sell you an aftermarket warranty for a car thats still in manufacturers warranty.
They should frankly be ashamed of themselves with that list.1 -
Thanks - confirming what I thought.1

The one that might be worth understanding is the "insurance" - what is that? Is it GAP insurance? If so, I would not buy it, but there are many on here that consider GAP insurance as essential. Even if you do wish to take out GAP insurance, you can do so separately from the Dealer and likely much cheaper - try to check some rates online before you go to see the car.
I am not sure whether you need finance, but expect the hard sell there also. That is worth a more open-mind, as sometimes the finance offers "incentives", though less-common with a used car.
If the Dealer won't sell the car at the advertised price or lower, walk away.
If you don't like the Dealer when they are being your best friend, then walk away. The Dealer certainly won't be any easier to get along with in the unfortunate event that there is any after-sales required.
Good luck, and I hope you like the car. What have you gone for - Octavia Estate?1 -
Thanks, but sticking to the SEAT.0

This sort of thing is quite common now particularly at car supermarkets, though the fuel charge is a new one on me.
Are they shipping the car in from another site?
What is under the dealer fitted list?
Are they factory options that the first owner paid for already or just cheap mats and mudflaps?
You are right to question these things, most are already telling you if you do want these, they are cheaper to buy elsewhere yourself. Most will also tell you these aren't worth it even if they are half the price.
Trouble may start when you say you don't want some or all of these add ons, they will try and hard sell them pretty doggedly, this can give you a right headache. Sometimes it can be a bit of a laugh pointing out their porkies and exaggerations.
Stay firm but polite, tell them to prepare the forms stating you've been offered them but refused them, you will happily sign them. This should give them a hint you aren't a stranger to this.
Some have been known to refuse the sale if you don't have for them, then all you can do is walk away and look elsewhere.0 -
Thanks. Beginning to think it's a typo and should read "fool charge".4

OP - did you like the car and did you get a good deal?0

Actually, yes I did. It drove beautifully and they let me go out on my own.
They did not force the extras on me and reduced below the original price and threw in the warranty for nothing. Its low mileage and when I compare to similar on Autotrader, a bargain. Trying to find the catch, but just cannot.0 -

Odds on it has not been serviced in line with manufacture requirement so could have a void manufacture warranty on certain issues..Life in the slow lane0
