O/S Daily Friday 6 August 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dreary, damp start to the day, rain forecast for the coming days too.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 heppy and settled.
Dinner last night was chicken and leek pie, new potatoes, veg and gravy. I had fishcakes and veg. Tonight I'm not sure but I'm food shopping this morning.
I got a couple of admin jobs done that I wanted, and today I have a list that I want to get through too. Food shopping first thing.
Keep safe and well x

Morning - thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday the rain at home was dreadful. After driving only about half an hour away the rain stopped and the sun came out so I had a wonderful drive down. Once in Glasgow I did a couple of chores and then left my car outside DM's, called a cab to take me to the hotel and checked in.The hotel is lovely so I'm glad I plumped for it. Thanks for the prompt Wicked Lady. Homemade cupcakes, real coffee, fresh milk, great views over two historic buildings and friendly service are some of the plus points. And in the centre of town. There's no evening meal service just yet but I just popped across the road to a noodle bar. Now I'm looking forward to my freshly cooked breakfast in a wee while. This morning I'll be clearing out the final items from DM's flat. In the afternoon I have a dental appointment and then, weather permitting, driving home. So far the predicted storms haven't arrived but I'm not resting easy about it.Take care everyone. Happy Friday.16

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.Your hotel sounds wonderful Gers, you can bear it in mind for the future if you need to stay in Glasgow any time. Hope you get home ok.It's raining here, yesterday turned out warm in the morning, but it changed as the day went on.I have no particular plans for today, except looking on the net so see if some of the children's books DH got down from the loft the other day are worth selling - there are quite a few Lad*birds, and I know there's a .market for them. There are a couple of toys that seem to be sellable as well, we'll check it out.He also got out some things that our young dgs will play with, it'll be a surprise for him the next time he's here, next week . I haven't seen DD and family for nearly 3 weeks, they are at their caravan.A couple of friends and I are visiting another friend tonight, like we used to do pre Covid, so that will be nice. It's getting darker here, a wet day seems to be in store for us.DP1, hope you'll be able to visit your DD.Hope everyone has a good Friday - thinking of our MIA's, and poorly people16

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the start. GERS hope all goes well today with your final clearance of DM's flat. I'm sure it will be a sad day locking up for the last time. Safe journey back home after the dentist.
It looked a bit damp outside when I got up but now the sun is coming out. Rain and storms seem to be forecast for most of us over the next few days and anyone who escapes one will be lucky by the sound of it!
My trusty steam cleaner finally gave up the ghost yesterday. It's been on the blink for a week or two, stopping and starting, but yesterday it finally died. I have ordered a replacement from Direct Vacuums as that's where I bought this one and it's served me well over the years. Due for delivery tomorrow. A new toy to play with until the novelty wears off!!
It's youngest DGDs 11th birthday today. It just seems like yesterday I was changing her nappies. The years fly by so quickly the older you get. She is having a hot tub party and bbq with a few friends this afternoon, so I hope the rain stays away for them.
I have the pleasure of the Friday Tidy today, such fun. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking of the poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA. Take care one and all and be safe x

Good morning ladies everyone,
Bright and dry presently, quite a lot of rain yesterday, but only got damp, not really wet. I had a manicure for the first time since lockdown 1, tried a new salon, a sole trader and she is so lovely, previous regular salon was very good, but this one is central and much easier to walk to.
OH (and DDawg) and I are supposedly going away in the van on Sunday, a visit to the East Midlands National Forest area. I say supposedly because I have no idea how we will manage to get ready. Family meeting with Undertaker and Vicar today, and a social get together tomorrow morning, again a first since Covid so don't want to skip it.
Rather expecting fireworks this afternoon, due to a feud between members of one branch of the family, DM would have wanted all members at her funeral so some will just have to take it onboard, but due to recent bereavement they are quite fragile, fingers crossed it will be better than hoped for.
Gers your hotel sounds lovely, I would love to visit Glasgow and re-visit Edinburgh, but not on the cards while we have our beloved furry (who was 12 this week).
nmlc thank you for today's thread, hope that you get all ticked off your list.
Fingers crossed for those hoping to visit Germany.
TA Indeed where does the time go, youngest in our families are now 17,18 and 19.
Scarlett it seems that you may have many sought after items there.
Have a great day all and I hope that promised storms pass us all by.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)15 -
Morning all
Wow! Thank you GERS; so pleased to see the jugs still in use. It's the little things like that that just made the place so special. We would certainly stay there again; it's a home from home in the middle of the city. Hope breakfast is going well.
Down here it's raining - again! I'm having my hair cut this morning and need to do a SM shop at some point. DS is driving up from Dorset today to leave his bike with us, before moving to a flat share in London. No doubt there will be a few more boxes to add to the pile in the garage as well.
Cambridge yesterday went well as we got there early enough for a pub lunch before my appointment. I've been offered surgery for my cataract in the autumn, which is a relief, although I'll have to get proper reading glasses afterwards, We finished off with a visit to the Botanic Gardens for tea and cake - coffee and walnut for me. It was then a wet drive home and my eyes were still blurry for most of the evening but are fine this morning.
Here's hoping things go as well as they can for everyone today.

Morning all dog walked and DW emptied I have a dog behaviourist coming today as we are struggling to know how best to treat little miss and her anxieties she has always been anxious since we rescued her very reactive to men and other dogs she has no recall her prey drive is very high to the extent i could stand calling her with a large roast chicken and if she had picked up a scent she wouldn't even notice i was there obviously with everything that has gone on in the last 12 months her anxiety has become worse and so like us she needs help and i need some guidance the lady is highly recomended and we have been waiting a while for her to come so i am hoping she can help.
We are having our friends over at the weekend to talk holidays as our safari to Kenya has been cancelled we can't move it till next year as 2019 holidays have been moved to 2023 so no more leave really not sure what we will do but we all agree we need a break and some pampering
Yesterday DS had his medical/physical all passed I sat in Sainsbugs car park with my kindle as he was only gone for about an hour and a half other than that not too much to say better get a shifty on as no housework was done yesterday
Hugs to all our poorlies those looking after them and all those who are worried or just struggling right now
Have a great day whatever you are up to xSlava Ukraini14 -
Morning all! Raining! I don't know why that deserved an exclamation mark, it's not as if it's a big surprise..I am happy about it though, its filling my butts...Had a long chat with a friend last night who lives in Spain. And now I'm aware that flashers are alive and well and still around...I find that very depressing, that there's a subsection of men who hide behind treees to jump out and wave their chicken necks at people. OK, when I say people, I mean women. And I also find it quite scary. There was another woman who got flashed at while my friend was out walking and when my friend chatted with her about this, she said it was the third time that week but that she hadn't told the police because because who would believe it happening three times to the same person? #Meeting this morning with a guy to talk about the heating for the house when it's done and how we go about doing and looking for what we want. I'm hoping he can do an in house service because while saving a little bit of money is fine, I would rather ensure that this part is top quality in design and build. I don't want bits and pieces falling off or breaking after three months for example. And then one more appointment tomorrow and that's it for the week...hooray.Happy anniversary Florence, that's an achievement these days
nanny, our house always looks like a bomb has gone off, it just differes in severity from day to day....don't worry ....camelot, the hollyhocks are in clay soil here [ not the grey stuff, the black stuff, and they do take two years to show up. I planted these last year..Bella, what a shame, maybe he was scared to go and that just reinforced it. Gers, good luck for today, it might be a sad one...Scarlet,very MSE!
TA, I hope you don't end up talking to it like I did.. Maddie, if there's going to be an argument, funerals bring out the wrost in some people, good luck... Right, I'm off the beautify myself, no, not really, just to be slightly presentable for a chage...Take care f yourselves, today seems to be a stew and wrap up warm day...

Morning all from a wet and windy mehefinland.
I have been reading along, but not had much of interest to say .
I did get to drive the car to the garage the other day - must be the furthest its been in 12 months!! A lovely beep and icon came up on the dash , and after fighting my way through the owners handbook it appears there is an emissions problem. Now waiting on garage to source the necessary bit and no doubt an ouch bill.
Scoobymare has yet another abscess and I have been poulticing like crazy. Should be sorted soon with luck
hugs and spoons as always

Go for the cataract op.. It was life changing for me, although Mrs M finds it funny when i go looking for my 'reading' glasses. After 50+ years of wearing them it is strange to not have to IYSWIM. Good luck.
