DLA after 16

Options
I get DLA for my son, who has just turned 16. We haven’t had any letters through about applying for PIP yet, but I’ve just seen in my bank that it’s about half the amount been paid.

I think I read something somewhere that it’s paid up until his 16th birthday, and then the period starts again, so paid again in 4 weeks, but I can’t find anything to back that up now.  Is that right, or is it just a case of waiting for PIP assessment now?

Thanks

I may be wrong but I think  you will be invited to apply for PIP, they won't just invite him for a PIP assessment without you applying.

That's correct. A letter will be sent asking you to apply and then once you ring to start the claim the PIP2 form will be sent. You will need to fill out the form with as much information about how the condition affects them. Send your evidence with the form to support your claim. Most people have either telephone or face to face assessments. Paper based assessments are rare but people do have them.
The DLA will continue providing you ring to start the claim before the deadline and the form is recieved back at DWP before the deadline.
Regarding the DLA payments now, something tells me the payments cycle changes slightly but to know for certain the best thing to do is ring DLA to ask.

Yes that's correct - you receive a part-payment up to his 16th birthday, then start a new 4-weekly payment cycle from the birthday onwards.
