Our villa booking in Cyprus has been cancelled because of Covid but our flights have not. They were booked separately. Is there a way to claim on
insurance for the flights as we have no accommodation and what is left is considerably more expensive than when we booked it.

If your insurance covers you, then yes.

If there's accomodation available then it's simply a disinclination not to travel. Not an insurable event. See if you can move your flights to a different destination.
  • Yes we can change the flights. The confusion has come from our insurance saying we can’t claim, as technically the airline have still held up their end of the deal so to speak. Friends who we were travelling with have been told by their bank that they can claim and should be a ‘no show’ at the airport.

I think I'd be more inclined to believe your insurance company rather than your friends or their bank, unless you can point to a clause in your policy that would cover you for choosing not to fly in these circumstances....

Edit: for what it's worth, it is of course possible for both to be right, but even if your friends' bank is able and willing to refund them, that doesn't mean that you'd have equivalent cover with a different insurer.

You need to read your policy document to see what is covered.

But, just being a no  a how is not normally grounds to claim. You would be claiming for the reason for the no show.

Disinclination to travel is not a valid reason to claim.

I would not  trust a bank employee to know the ins and outs of the insurance  policy.
