Appliances Direct - warning premium phone number

I spent 4m 47s on hold trying to ask AD a question about a product as they have not published the necessary info on their website. I didn't realise the 0871 number was premium until I got a text from O2 advising me I had called a premium number. Luckily I didn't have time to wait and hung up before wasting any more money. £2.47 wasted. Seems sneaky they would do this and not have a normal rate phone number. I shall be buying my heater elsewhere now.

0871 numbers are not premium as such (they begin with 09) but are non-geographic and charged around 10p a minute from landlines, about 35p from mobiles.

This has been the case for at least 20 years - have you never called an 0871 number before ?

They state the call cost onsite next to the number

"Calls cost 13ppm plus your network access charge"
