O/S Daily Thursday 5 August 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light cloud with sun rising, dry underfoot after a dry day yesterday.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work. I'm showered, dressed and I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner was gammon, egg and chips/jacket potato.
Working half day today.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's not a bad morning here, we had a heavy shower or two yesterday, I think it may be the same today,I didn't post yesterday, my laptop didn't want to for some reason, but it seems ok today. The latest excitement here is that we've bought a new vacuum cleaner, whoo hoo ( we're easily excited), we've talked about it for a while, then upped and bought one yesterday. Got it at Ar8os in the nearst large Sains, so I did some shopping there as well. I was tempted by the clothes, but having just taken a carrier bag full of clothes to the chazzer, it seemed a bit wasteful to buy more, and I really don't need them. Not a lot on the cards for today, just the usual stuff.Gers I'm pleased that you are settling in back at home, there's nothing like your own place.Hope everyone is all right, thinking of the sad and poorly people.Take care folks.13

Morning! Sunny! Although rain is forecast...And I saw Running Man this morning and he WASN'T RUNNING! We even made eye contact and sort of smiled/nodded good morning. My hollyhocks out the front are massive, well over seven foot some of them, shame I'm not fussed on the colours...It's a sort of a dusky pink with a deeper purple on the inside but I like the black ones and the darker pink ones. Anyway...Yesterday went busily, more sorting out in garden, back bedroom did not feature at all. I went out there intending just to look at something and then it dawned on me I didn't have to wait for a specific time to do something and there's no time like the present, so I started doing one thing and that led to another and then two hours had gone by...So I listened to some Slob Comes Clean in the car while I was waiting for OH to gee me back up again. And this time I'll make a list of what's going to the tip.Today is most definitely upstairs day, honest guv, no more procrastinating...dumpling, glad they're both out of hospital, but to be honest, your mother doesn't surprise me, but she'll learn
Rosy, I love a freezer surprise when you find something you didn't know you gad and actuallylike it, not like the unidentifiable stuff in takeaway tubs that always surprise me...Ruby, I'm sure she will. Who doesn't love a bread and butter pickle? Bella, how did that come about? Hester, you have the patience of a saint...Scarlet, I understand your inner vacuum thrill. I stillmake noises at mine when it stops. For some reason I just love the noise the motor makes when it stops and I find myself repeating it...So only worry when you start talking to your new vacuum...Take care of yourselves folks in this changeable weather, never sure whether it's ice cream or stew time....

Morning folks- thanks for starting us off nmlc.
Weather is wet with more of the same promised. ☹️Yesterday was fairly productive. I changed the bed linen, got it through the WM and out on the whirly, the brisk wind got it all dry in swift time. A neighbour and son came to help me re-organise the paintings. All got laid out on the grass and then stacked properly. During that the wood burner man appeared to replace my bent front grate and we chatted about replacing my stove so he's going to order a size up for me. I can easily sell this one. 😀 My cleaner arrived in the afternoon, together we turned my new mattress. And then the chimney sweep came to do his thing. I bought a new Co2 monitor as mine only had about a month to go, so all set for winter. He set fire to my kindling nest to test the draw so I decided to keep it going. Although I didn't need the heat I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. 😀
Early this morning I decided to drive down to Glasgow this afternoon rather than tomorrow morning. There's a yellow weather warning out for tomorrow so there's every chance that the Rest will be closed and driving conditions awful. So, I've booked an hotel room for tonight and, if needed, will stay with Alan for Friday night. Someone here (sorry for forgetting her name) recommended the Grasshopper hotel, a friend had also told me about it, so I'm in there. Looks interesting.Dumpling - such wonderful news about your sister yesterday. 🎉🎉 And your mum too. 🎉
Now for some idle browsing. My thoughts to all. Happy Thursday to all. 💕16 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another nice start but once again showers are promised later. Yesterday we escaped with just one shower which stopped as quickly as it started.
After 2 days of tripping about and dining out a boring day is ahead. So a bit of cleaning might be done and this afternoon I have the excitement of a Tesco delivery and a 2 month supply of Sparkle's cat food from Hi Life. It's now impossible to find hereabouts so I have to order direct from them.
Yesterday, once again, we ended up in Ilkley and more time was spent over lunch 'n wine than actually wandering about and we all came home with no other spending done! So almost an MSE day!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones, bereaved and MIA. DUMPLING good to hear your DSis is home and sorry DM isn't behaving herself!! TAFF I can't think of a better dream to have than moving to Italy. I have lovely memories of hols there. GERS I am envious of the lovely little community you live in. Take care one and all and stay safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"15 -
Morning All
I've been for a bracing swim this morning in the new wetsuit which was amazing - not the one from the loft, that's a bit big but I got another shortie one yesterday at Decathlon, thinner than the one I have and at only £19 it seemed a shame to leave it on the shelf!
Glad to hear your DM and DSis are both home dumpling, hope they make good recoveries.
Good call on going back to Glasgow today Gers, the weather looks rotten for tomorrow.
Envious of your hollyhocks taff, I can't seem to grow them here.
It's very overcast here, don't think the rain is far away but will put the washing out for a blow anyway. The forecast has been for rain every day this week but so far we haven't had any.
Thinking of our missing friends, especially Marie, Mehefin and Nels. Good to hear from you Poppy, hope the treatment helps.
Have a happy Thursday, take care. XX

Morning all dog walked second load in the machine and later I am off to Cambridge with DS for his interview thing other than that just mooching along somehow i have managed to volunteer myself for looking after DD2's dog and taking and collecting them from the airport in a few weeks i wouldn't mind but its Heathrow to be honest i am a bit scared of driving there Gatwick and Stansted are fine but Heathrow is big
Taff DH didn't want to go in the end he worked with someone who went to Australia and before their things had even arrived they were on a plane back but his children were teens and he liked a drink and fell out with the locals and honestly i think it was the wrong choice for us , he had a job offer and so did I and a house to rent but it wasn't to be so we stayed and got on with our lives here I wish i had pushed harder and we had at least gone to try it our children were very young at the time and i think he worried that we would have no support
Right enough of my waffle have a good day whatever you are up to .
Hugs to all our poorlies ,those caring for them and our MIA's x

Morning everyone
Dry here at the moment, but showers forecast for this afternoon. Mind they were yesterday too and it ended up being dry till about 6pm - then there was a downpour followed by a beautiful rainbow and sunshine again.
Fish and chips last night were lovely - dad really enjoyed his. He loves a fish from the chip shop.
Not really got any plans for today - other than to finish the weeding at the front of the house. I got most of it done yesterday so won't take me much longer. Might even cut the grass too.
Germany is now on our green list. I have decided that I'm definitely going - so that's 3 weeks today. so looking forward to seeing DD again.
Hope everyone has a good day15 -
Morning all; bright and sunny here at the moment.
Still catching up from our few days in Devon so have a load of ironing to get through and some food shopping to do.
Today I am also in Cambridge so Bellabella and I could possibly walk past each other without knowing! I have an eye OPD to discuss a cataract operation so DH will be driving because I will have drops put in my eyes to dilate the pupils. Sunglasses are in my bag for wearing afterwards.
GERS; it was me who recommended Grasshoppers as we had a lovely stay there a few years ago. I hope your stay is equally delightful. I remember the owner proudly telling us how he had sourced blue, green and red stripey jugs for the 3 types of milk used. There were also plates of tempting nibbles in the corridor..............
Lovely to hear that your sister is home Dumpling and hope your mother's recovery also goes well.
Have a good day everyone.16 -
Morning all
Its a bit overcast here and rain due this afternoon, I have no washing to do for once so the wm can have the day off for a change !
Taking my sister for a check up on her hand this afternoon and I will pick my shopping up at the same time, will then come home here for dinner as her partner is out this evening and she still cant do anything much with her hand, so I think we will have fish and chips as a treat, will see if mum wants to come as well.
I need to have a tidy through and hoover the floors and then get the dogs out before I go out.
My chin lady loved the pickles I took her, she was thrilled, the good news is that the hair is on the way out she said there was much less yesterday
Right better get on have good days all xx

It does look interesting so I'm keen to stay there. The bad weather may last until Saturday and my main route home may well close.
