Tax credit overpayment

I have today received a letter from HMRC saying I owe 3 lots of tax credit over payments from 2009, 2010 and 2011... Why have they suddenly decided I owe this now after all this time.
I had a surprise overpayment a few years back which they stopped out of my benefits to pay back... And pay back I did...
Can't believe they come up with 3 more... What the hell
Has anyone any advice, please

Yup, there's been others threads regarding this too. They are starting to catch up with those that owe money from more than 10 years ago. At the time of the overpayment you should have received your tax credits award notice with details of what's owed.
If you don't know why you owe this money then you can make a subject access request to HMRC. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/hmrc-subject-access-request
