CAN I SELL OLD CORAL FROM THE BAHAMAS

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help me with this question.  I am clearing out my aunt's flat, and she lived in the Bahamas for many years.  Amongst her possessions are several pieces of white coral and I was wondering if I can sell these to raise funds for her care home.

Many thanks

I would be careful, many species of coral are now protected and cannot be sold . It isn’t something I deal with a lot so can’t say which is saleable and which is not, i just know that CITES has rules about it now.

It looks to be very complicated - here's a list from CITES

  • Thank you so much to all you who replied. This was probably bought in the Bahamas in the 1960's/1970's as she lived out there for many years.  It is quite complicated, so will need to investigate it further.

    Many thanks once again
