The day after my state pension qualifying age, nothing heard from the DWP

  • Today, finally, I received a letter from DWP stating how much I was to be paid. I am to be paid for 6 weeks worth as the payment is overdue. And then every 4 weeks after that. Coincidently I heard from my MP dated 10th September, written a day after the date on the DWP letter.

I haven’t received the money yet but I was told by DWP ( I had to phone them again to ask) that the first payment would arrive one week after the date on the letter.

    This must be a relief!
  • Pleased you are seeing some progress, hopefully you will receive payment soon. My wife is still waiting to hear anything.

Thanks. Nearly there. Hopefully it will be in my account on Thursday this week. I tried writing to them but I believe they are choked up with incoming mail too.

We all just need to have some patience and flexibility.

And the civil servants need to get back to work?

Civil servants are working even if based working from home!

I should have expressed myself with greater precision -- "get back to the office".

Civil servants are paid from the public purse.

It is time that they were required to go to the office and perform their duties efficiently and in a timely fashion.

Sardine cans will be breeding grounds for Covid. Squeezing as many people into the smallest space possible to achieve a cost saving was a policy adopted by central government civil service bureaucrats. Will come back to haunt them now.

Is it not time that we learned to live with what has become an endemic disease?

The world was not shut down for the flu!`*

    Edit to add

    * in which connection

Small matter of anti vaxxers to be dealt with and those who are comfortable WFH as it suits them due to personal circumstances. Much management time I fear is going to wasted.

    Why the pejorative term?

And had you missed the point that the vaccinated and unvaccinated alike may be infected and carry and transmit the virus?

and those who are comfortable WFH as it suits them due to personal circumstances

They might well be! But it is unlikely to be what was in the original contract!

It would be perfectly understandable if particularly vulnerable members of staff were permitted to work from home.

But just how many fall into that group ?

And I say again - civil servants are paid from the public purse and the public deserves a timely and efficient service.

Month after month, shop employees,  plumbers, electricians dustmen etc etc  have taken themselves out to work and got on with the job.

Why should civil servants be treated any differently?
